there is sound but the picture is nothing but 3 curved bars at the top of the screen. a green blue and red one. so obviously the color guns(or does this have bulbs?) are working. kid i got for free from brought it to a guy and he said its a comon problem and the bulb needs to be replaced? 200 doller fix? but all 3 colors are there....its a zenith inteq model 1Q6097DT serial number 681-75462049

what could this be? i wanted to fix it and sell it for a couple hundred seeing im strapped for money.

- yea id like more info about this. im an auto mechanic, my roomates a computer wiz and his dad builds computers for some company or something(very very smart, he helped us fix another projection tv)

whats an STK?
i was reading up, theres a convergence bourd or something no? would it be worth it just replace that?
where can i find parts? i cant even find this model for sale anymore, i guess because its so old but still, even ebay.

and yes, i know, its a zenith, get over it, its crappy ;-)

- ok, what exactly is the name of this module? convergence module?
whats an IC?
yea i have a fluke meter to measure the resisters i just have to remember to grab new soldering tips somewhere as mines all screwed up from platic welding(lost the crappy tip i used to use)

- ok, thanks man, i probably will just end up finding the chips, gettting the number, and ordering them along with any needed resistors. i have nothing but time down at school so ill take the long way. thanks again ill let you know how it goes.

- well i got the tv down to the apartment and turned it on. same thing, but now there is a noise like when you have a small hole in your buger king soda straw(hissing, but slurping kinda deal?). its coming from one of the main boards and the area has discolored plastic and evididence of smoke. whats making the sound is a box shaped thing with a red, looks like tubing, going to it. other end goes up to the color guns i think, unable to trace it without taking alot more apart. it has smoke marks up the side of it that i would guess is from the resisters below. i looked underneth this board and all i found was a loose solder.

i looked around some more and found what i think you are calling these IC chips(i put in the part number on it and it came up "IC"). but there only 5-8 pins. the 8 pin ones look fine but the 5 pin one has evidence of burning on it and the surrounding resistors. the 5 pins on the opposite side of the board as the 8 pin chips so its good say there fine.

im getting kind of lost here now...i got 2 burnt boards here. the one with the chips on it looks the worst...

- i have pictures if youd like them.

Jan 15, 2008

- heeellllooooo.....my problem isn't fixed yet. i put the chip in that i was talking about. the picture now is a red-orange hue with 5-6 lines from top and bottom evenly spaced. the lines twitch and change positions every couple seconds. i have pictures but supposivly there too big to load onto this website.

Jackman, you have a convergence problem, probably a couple of stk`s and a few burnt resistors, problem is it will cost you at least 125.00 if you do it yourself and it`s NOT a simple job, let me know if you want more info, BMW Rider

- Jackman, easiest way to fix it is to order a re-built module, which you can get here 972-298-1212 probably somewhere around $180.00 easy to do for a computer tech. Cheaper (but way harder) is to replace the convergence IC`s, tried to look them up for you but no longer listed on the site. They are large black (usually 18 pins) Ic`s attatched to a very large aluminum heat sink on the main board, usually (but not allways) have this number stamped on the front "STK392-110" possibly 150`s, you will also have to check the resistors located in front of the IC`s, there will be approximately 12-14 resistors and be advised that one leg MUST be removed in order to check them and they are usually 2% or 5% tolerance so they need to be close to the correct value, good luck, BMW Rider, email me if you have more questions

- Jackman, an IC is a chip, the ones in your set should be 18 pins each, I don`t have the service manual for that model so can`t look up the board for you, be advised that your model number does not start with the number 1 (one) it is actually the letter
I , call "module exchange" and they will tell you how much if they have it, they can answer your questions better than I can because I don`t have the sm, BMW Rider
