Question about Sony KP-53S65 53" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Sony KP-53N77 Had trouble with the blue colors being half an inch off from red and green, shadowing over. Went into settings and found out the blue alignment grid at the top was curled under and the words for the settings were out of line.Took out print boards and checked solderings. Finally had to move the blue grid down about one two inches to straighten the top grid and words out. Then moved the red and green down to match. The colors are cool now but my screen is two inches low, but still reaches the top of the viewing screen. Do you think my blue tube is bad you can look inside the tube and the right top corner had a wave in it. Not sure what to do or just leave it alone?

Re: sony KP-53N77

Well I personally like rear projection sets with tubes in them better than the new HD crap but Sony or Hitachi would be my choice if I had to buy one of the new format sets, good luck with it & Happy New Year, BMW Rider

Re: sony KP-53N77

Hi, you have a convergence problem, the IC`s and possibly a few precision resistors feeding the IC`s will have to be replaced, not an easy job if you haven`t done it before. If you are very proficient at solder work and can use a volt meter to check the resistors you can do the job but it isn`t easy for a lay-person, If you have more questions e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider

My 65 inch sony tv half the screen is having colors like 3 d

Your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless.

Sony KP-53V45 color issues

When ever a tube starts to short or is shorted set always will have over bearing drive lines then shut down like RED if it was bad, set would come on long enough for red lines across set then shut down this is the same with all 3 tubes. Also if you think it might be green tube disconnected green CRT board on neck of green tube if set comes on and plays then it is green tube do all 3 tube this way one at a time this will tell you if you have other problems.

Sounds like a convergence issue. Call Sony for an ASC that can come out and give you an estimate. You are probably looking at $200-400 to do the repair.

Sony tv KP-61HS10 lenses wont align

This is common in those sets. One of your convergence IC's has stopped working and needs to be replaced. The convergence IC should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by someone with experience in Sony projection sets.
