Help me install belt on electric dryer

Dryer works, but doesn't turn. took apart and found broken belt. I replaced the heating element myself about 4 years ago-works great. the service man wanted alot of money over the phone and then proceeded to tell me in detail what he needed to do and I wrote it down and got the part and fixed it with my son. people are shocked that i could do it (a female) but i told them it was my army background and "can do it" attitude. i have the electric dryer apart and can access it from the front. found a broken ,worn belt on bottom. Serial # missing from the front door. but belt could be used to compare to get another----just need to know how to install new one. much thanks.

Sorry Guest--rated you wrong -thought you were the post above. I don't know the model # it's gone, but it's a Sears Kenmore Heavy Duty Electric Dryer 3 cycle I bought used 1990 and been able to fix any problems up to now. This is a new one. I can take the old broken belt to the sears parts place and they can figure out what I need. I just need to know how-to install the new belt. Thanks for trying to help. I'm just a little unnerved with a kid on freshman college break wanting to wash w/o a dryer and he's always showering and clean clothes are a must. Can't wait til he goes BACK to dorm-love him but he's driving me nuts!

Our dryer is working but has no heat and there is a switch on the back and we are not sure what it is for

I have a Kenmore made by Whirlpool Ex Cap Electric Dryer. Recently I had this problem 3 times in 2 months. Took it into the shop twice at $90 and they replaced heat sensors. I bought the heat sensors [ a pair ] that mount on the air exhaust for less than $40. Put them in myself, and read the installation instructions - required 4" clearance from wall and a minimum 12 sq in exhaust flow. Found the dryer was against the wall and a constriction on exhaust flow to 8 sq. in. that was causing the sensors to blow out. I also pulled the heat element and used an ohm meter to verify that the element had continuity [was not broken]. I am fairly well versed in repairs and this took 20 minutes after parts came from Ebay source.

That describes 90% of the problems and the fix. Other than this, there is a switch that shuts off the dryer when the door opens.

The dry will not start the display or dig. Controls wont engage anything the start button keeps flashing was just working great

Bad Heating Element
Most clothing dryers heat up and dry clothes with a heating element inside the appliance's body. Maytag dryers are no different and sometimes these heating elements break down or burn out, making the dryer cease to get hot. Make sure the dryer is unplugged and the breakers that run the dryer are switched off before inspecting so you don't electrocute yourself. The heating element is in the bottom panel of the dryer and is often a silver part which heats up when the dryer is on. Sometimes the heating element will be cracked or burned out, which means it is broken. Other times it won't look damaged but may not be working. Replace the heating element if this occurs, to see if this is the main problem.
Broken Motor
Maytag dryers have motors which turn the dryer drum, tossing the clothes so that air and heat can help dry them out completely. When the dryer drum is not turning it means there is something wrong with the motor or that the motor is not getting power. Unplug the dryer and take it apart to inspect the motor. Once you have found the motor, plug the dryer back in and use a meter to see if the motor is getting power. If it is, and isn't working, then there is something wrong with the motor and how it is operating. If the motor isn't getting power, then there is something wrong with the circuits or fuses which disperse power to the motor itself.
Bad Switch
When Maytag dryers won't tumble or heat the clothes which have been put inside of them, this means there could be a number of different things wrong. However, sometimes there's a simple solution to this problem: The switch on the door of the dryer itself may be faulty or not making the electric connection it should to allow the dryer to run. This is a cheap fix and worth troubleshooting before tearing your Maytag dryer apart. Remove the switch and inspect the two leads to make sure they haven't broken or are still transferring electricity. If they aren't you will have to replace the switch

  • There are a number of different problems which can occur with models of Maytag dryers resulting in them not heating and drying clothes properly. A variety of parts could have broken or been worn out over the course of the time you have been using your dryer or something could just malfunction, as appliances tend to do from time to time. Check warranty information before trying to repair the Maytag dryer yourself.

Electric dryer tumbles but does not dry clothes on any setting. dryer is only 4 yrs old.

Heating element has gone bad. You need to unplug unit. remove back, then find heating element and remove it. Look for what looks like broken springs, if found replace element. 99% of electric dryers not drying are the heating element. Cost around $50

I don't know anything about dryers so please bear with me. My dryer drum turns, fan blows, but wont heat. replaced heating element. Still no heat. Has 124 volts on both prongs of element. What should i do?...

Have you tried flipping the breakers @ your electrical box? Mine will do that at time when one breaker has tripped. It will have enough juice to run it but not heat it. IF that doesn't work there may be a broken wire to the heating element or possibly even a faulty heating element. I'd try the breakers first though.(Im not a professional I've just been a single mom for 18 years and have found myself working on all sorts of things and gaining knowledge from hands on experience) Hope it helps & works.

Heats when unit is not on

Same thing just happened to my DEGX1. I took it apart and one of the heating elements had broken and fell to the bottom of the metal case. I think it was creating a short to ground and making it heat. I removed the broken element wires and attached them back best I could and did a test run with no problems. It is not heating when off now either. searspartsdirect.com had the elements for $67 so I ordered a set and will replace both of them (part #395583). My dryer is only 4 years old and 3 weeks ago the driver belt broke. Irritating they can't make them last any longer these days.

Dryer turns on but won't heat up or tumble

    Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail (meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning opencircuit)
4 Moderntumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuitboards) thesehave programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an errorcode showing you were the fault is.
5 Faultyconnections and burned wires may also be the fault.
