Trying to install an HP photosmart 1115 to a Dell laptop. There is only a USB connection cord. I'm not sure where the original software, manuals, or LPT1 connection cable is. I am trying to help a friend. The software download was successful, and the printer appears in the printer file, however, everytime we try to print a test page, we get an error message that the printer connection could not be established. Not sure how to resolve since we followed both written directions and tutorials from the HP support site. Any other thoughts?

- Thanks. That will be my next step. Her office was busy today and I couldn't get to the PC. This was a hand-me-down printer and my friend was hoping it would work so she wouldn't have to buy another one.
Was the printer new? Try it in another pc to make sure it's all right. Then try another usb cable. When you attach the cable, the pc should recognize when the printer is on.
