Gray Bars across playback

There are horizontal gray bars, evenly spaced, across the playback on the cam-corder display, and also if I download the video onto my computer. I tried new tapes, didn't help. Supposedly the heads may be mis-aligned. Can I re-align them myself? Thanks

I hate to say this but you sould bring it for repair to a professional instead of trying to repair it yourself and actually damaging your camcorder. If simple maintenance
repairs don't work like incerting cleaning tapes for 10 seconds.
Please bring it to someone who knows what they are doing.
You'll get your camera back working perfectly for a small fee.

When you see gray bars that means that your drum is dirty use a soft head cleaning tape for 20 secs and with the posts they are visible by removing the cassette cover there is one for audio it looks like a minus sign on the post and the other is for video and it has a plus sign on top you would need to use a phillips head screw driver with the middle cut out or a pair of twezzers and when you adjust it you turn it a very very little bit to the right start with the one with the minus sign and when the problem goes away when viewing you turn it back just a hair. when you look at the posts you will see in the middle that there is a raised spot that why you would need the tool that i described.

Hi.. I have a jvc 32 X cam corder that i want to down load my videos onto my computer and am not sure how..

Two things here. Is your cam corder a digital one? If so there should be a connector on it for either firewire or USB, and if not, you will need some kind of video capture device if your cam corder has outputs on it. If not, you will need a player (vhs-c or 8mm or whatever your format) that can send out to the computer. Once this connectivity is done, you need video capture software that will "encode" the video files that will be produced. If your cam corder is already data (hard drive onboard or SCD card recording, you will only have to "demux" the format you have into the format that you are seeking (ie.. MPG to AVI or so on).
I hope that helps you out.. let me know if you need more clarification. It also might help if you give the media you have (VHS-c etc.) and the available outputs that you see on your cam corder. Thanks!

Gray bars on screen during video playback

My advice is that you should by a cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

Playback problem

I've encountered this exact problem a month ago, except cleaning the heads did not fix it. However, I was able to find an alternative solution...

After leaving my camera closed up in a drawer for a few weeks, I decided to take it out and leave it in the sun for 15 minutes, assuming that perhaps the gray bars were a result of moisture damage. The next day (Today, to be exact) I turned my camcorder on, and the gray bars have gone away from playback, as well as the reduced sound quallity it caused.

Horizontal lines on playback on my camocorder samsung sc-d353

Someone here recommended on another post to put the lense cap on & videotape the blackness in a quiet room for 5-10 mins. I tried this as a last resort & it worked. When I played back the tape, no more skipping or gray lines. I had 4-5 SOLID gray lines with skipping video & audio in between on every tape I put in. I think the person who helped me solve this said that it was a result of the tape alignment going off. My camera is a Canon zr80 digital camcorder. (Called Canon, they had me reset it & then recommended sending it in).

I hook my cam corder up to the my tv it will play but no sound

You are likely using the S-Video cable (multi-pin cable that connects to the front of the camera below the spotlight). This cable carries video but not audio. To get audio, use the multi RCA to 1/8" adapter (has red, yellow, and white cables and plugs into the side of the camera)
