Hi, the problem is that it depends on who you ask some people change the plugs every 6 months this is about right as it ensures the plugs are working at their best but as for the leads they should be changed every 12 months or so but most people dont change them for a couple of years.
Its advised you change plugs every 6 months and leads every 12 months.
Its more important you change the plugs every 6 months as they are doing most of the work and can get corroded and or build up of carbon causing miss fires and un even running and higher fuel consumption. So change them every 6 months to be on safe side. Unless your having problems with miss fire then the leads should last easily 2 years or more.
It all depends on weather you want to change them more often but they tend to fail after a couple of years.

Your engine rotates counterclockwise. In that case you install your wires counter clockwise on the distributor. The number 1 connector on the distributor cap is marked 1. You connect the number 1 wire which is the one in the left side. Then go counterclockwise connecting them in this order.
1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2
