HP Nightmare 30 days out of warranty!
I have an HP Pavilion DV6700 and just started to have issues with it. I contacted HP and they expressed to me the issue sounds to be a bad hard drive and than tried to sell me an extended warranty for $150.00 dollars. I decided that this not be a good investment since a new hard drive is cheaper. I the current hard drive am a Samsung Model HM121HI ATA series which is a 120 gig and 5300rpm. I decided to upgrade to a segate Momentus SATA 250gb and a 7300RPM, the seller told me they were compatible. I than installed the new hard drive and reinstalled the recovery disk (which HP charged me $25.00 for since I was not smart enough to make one prior. When the installation was complete I had several (9) issues most of them stated Failed Devices. I than did a check on the new hard drive and according to the HP diagnostic the new hard drive was bad; could this be due to the upgrade?
1- Is the new hard drive compatible to this computer?
2- Can the failed devices be corrected by add new drivers?

When you installed your operating system does it install the SATA / SCSI drivers?

My guess is HP diagnostics is looking for the ATA drive and not the SATA. If it's working and the size looks basically right, I wouldn't worry about the hard drive. The other failed devices are probably related to drivers. The recovery disk you have is a probably a generic one. You can log into HP's web site and download all the drivers and updates for your machine.
