Difficult is a relative question, I don't think it's very difficult though.

**First-Unplug the unit from the wall, or shut off any power to the unit.**

All you should need is a robertson screwdriver, perhaps a philips and slotted depending on the existing screw heads (square,star and flat) Remove the two screws at the back of the element bracket. Once they are removed, carefully pull the element a couple of inches from the oven cavity, there will be 2 wires connected to it. Hopefully the wires will be long enough to allow you to do this from the front, if not you'll need to remove the back panel of the range. If you have wires long enough you can proceed to remove them and install the new element in the reverse procedure.

You may also require a pair of pliers as well to remove/install the screws on the bake element, hold the connector with the pliers, and turn the screw with the driver so as not to twist the connector in a circle and hence ruining your new element.

*Note; inspect the connections of the wires to the element, if they look burnt, cracked, or just barely hanging on, replace them. you'll need to purchase (if you haven't already) a wire stripper/crimper and some new fittings. Make sure the new fittings/connectors are of the "hi-temp" (usually chrome/nickle plated) variety. Regular metal connector's will fatigue in a short time, relative again to how often the bake is used.

Hello. I looked carefully at the service manual for your unit--surprisingly, there is no thermal switch inline with the bake/broil elements. Usually, if the bake or broil elements pop, this blows out the thermal switch, killing power to the elements for safety. The main control board can get damaged due to the high current draw during a short-circuit. The part number for the main board is WB27T10008. The overlay(the decorative sticker with the button/names on it) numbers are as follows: almond WB27T10022, black WB27T10023, and white WB27T10021. I hope this helps you!

I see that you have replaced the bake element in your Frigidaire range but it is still not working. If you wouldn't mind please providing me your model number, I can better address the issue at hand. The serial tag, which lists your model number, is typically located in the storage drawer, on the right side.


Meanwhile, I recommend resetting your range. This can be done by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. It is important to wait roughly ten minutes and then turn your range on. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, your range could be experiencing other issues such as: a communication problem with the EOC (Electronic Oven Control), an open thermal fuse or a potential wiring failure.

What has happened is the element broke and it needs to be replaced. 99 and 1/2% percent of the time no other part went out and it just needs element. Go to the link i included and see where to find model# and reply back with it i'll give ya the part# be sure to tell me if it's bake(lower) or broil (upper) element.

My oven is not heating up properly, it either doesn't heat up or it takes a very long time to heat up. The range top works fine and the broiler works, but when i set it to bake it doesn't or takes long.
There are two possibilities for problems with the range. If it has a "timed bake" setting for the oven then it's possible that the last person who used it neglected to return the setting to the manual mode. In "timed bake" mode, the oven will heat to approx. 160 - 185 degrees, what is called a "keep warm" temp. It will maintain that heat setting regardless of what you set the oven temp control to, as long as you're not in the time frame that it's set to bake. This will make trying to bake anything a very difficult procedure.
The second possibility is that the oven glo coil igniter is cracked and will not heat to the proper temp to allow the electricity to flow through it to the oven gas safety valve to allow it to open and let the gas flow to the burner. These things are ceramic and for some reason crack in normal use. If it has a top broiler, that unit is obviously good. Unfortunately, the igniters are seldom interchangeable. You would need a tech to check the igniter with an ohmmeter.

Your lower element may be burned out. Generally you can firmly grasp and pull it out. Take it to a repair shop and get a replacement unit. Then simply snap it back into the same outlet where you remove the first one. It sound as if you've tried everything else so it must be the unit that is bad.

sounds like you may have a bad bake element. try to see if the unit will get hot when set to broil. if it does then try the bake again. if you get no red hot heat from the bake element then you may need to replace it.
when an element is working properly it will heat to a red hot glow.

When the bake igniter becomes weak or burns out, your oven would not bake. The bake igniter is usually mounted on the oven burner. It's about 1 inch by 4-8 inches (depending on the model), and comes in round or flat styles. If you don't see the igniter glow at all, it's probably burned out. Replace the igniter if found defective. Note: one of the exceptions could be that your oven is set to automatic mode instead of manual. If this is the case, set your oven to manual mode and check again.

If the bake igniter glows red and not bright yellow or white, it is probably because it is too weak. When this happens, the safety valve would not let the gas out into the oven burner. A weak igniter must be replaced.

A faulty igniter is probably the most common cause, however there are others:

-- defective thermostat
-- defective selector switch
-- defective gas safety valve
-- defective pressure regulator(likely issue if the igniter is ok)

GE J BP27G R1AD Oven Not Heating Fully
Hi Jeff. You should have a wiring diagram with the range. Check for an envelope on the back of the range, inside the back splash, or taped to the inside side wall of the range if you remove the lower drawer. That all being said, first check to see if the start or stop time knobs on the timer have been pushed in (and possibly turned). If the clock runs, it will clear this out within 12 hours, but on these old ranges often times the clock no longer runs. Make sure these knobs are turned until they have "popped" out or you won't get the necessary voltage where you need it. Secondly, when a bake element burns out, it can cause damage to the electrical contacts in the oven selector switch (part number WB22X5122 ) which can be tested with an ohm meter if you can find the electrical diagram. Also, the oven thermostat (part number WB21X5320 ) can be damaged in the same way. Unfortunately, these parts for these old units are not very cheap.
The little bit of heat you are getting in your oven now is most likely only from the 120 volts going to the broiler element when in Bake. During Bake, your bake element should get 240 volts (until thermostat is satisfied). Setting to Broil should give 240 to the broil element.
