Question about Uniden Cordless Phone

Uniden TCX805 Cordless "loses" dial tone

On any given day, my phone will "lose" it's dial tone or after a call is completed, the phone doesn't clear out/hang up from the call. I have to unplug the phone cord from the jack to "reset" the dial tone. (This doesn't just happen with calls.)

Same problem, different model of Uniden cordless. Assume it is an issue with the base station as it affects both handsets and other corded phones on the same line. Trouble goes away when the Uniden is not plugged in.

Sounds like the switching mechanism that creates the link is stuck. When you answer your phone, you allow the voltage to complete it's path and you either answer the phone or you hear dial tone. If that switch is stuck closed, even though you hung up the phone, the connection is still alive. When you try to pick the phone back up later, the connection is still closed, but your phone has already passed it's "if you would like to make a call" message and you hear no dial tone. Unplugging the power to the phone resets this switch and all is good again.....that is until it gets stuck again. I have seen this problem with phones after a near lightening strike at the house. Sounds like you need to get a new phone as I don't think this is repairable.

You didn't specify the model of your phone, but on many Uniden phones the choice between pulse and tone dialing is on the main menu.

Select the model of your phone from the list beginning at
to get the manual.

How do i call

Hello Tedelen,

Be sure to meet all the requirements of the phone to make calls and to be fully operational. These requirements can be found here (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader).

To make a phone call follow these instructions:

Making calls with the Handset
1. Pick up the handset and the phone automatically selects the priority line. If the priority line is occupied, it selects an open line.
Pick up the handset and press a LINE button to select a line.
2. Wait for a dial tone, then dial a phone number.
3. Hang up the handset when finished.

Making Calls with the Speakerphone
1. Press the SPEAKER button and the phone automatically selects the priority line. If the priority line is occupied, it selects an open line.
Press a LINE button to select a line.
2. Wait for a dial tone then dial a phone number.
3. Press SPEAKER button when finished.

If you are having problems refer to the given link to the User Guide.

Handset doesn't have dial tone. says check TEL line.

For this type of problem, you need to isolate the issue. It could be the phone, the inside wiring, or the outside wiring. I like to use an old rotary phone for testing but any basic corded phone should work. Get a new RJ-11 phone cable as well.

Unplug the base unit and plug in the test phone to that jack. Check if you get a dial tone. (Try a new cable if the initial one doesn't work.) If your test phone has a dial tone, then the problem is isolated to the cordless phone. (If the test phone works with the new cable, do check if Uniden works with that cable.) Modern phones are not designed to be fixed by the consumer. If the phone is under warranty, contact Uniden Customer Service. (Otherwise decide if the costs are worthwhile for you; there will be a significant delay before the phone is returned/replaced.)

If you do not get the dial tone, you need to track down the wiring issue. Next move to another jack on the phone line and check if there is a dial tone on your test phone. If there is a dial tone, you have isolated the problem to the jack or the wiring to the jack.

If there is still no dial tone, find where your telephone service comes in to your building. If you can, open the box. Determine the type of connection used there. If you are lucky, you will find a RJ-11 jack for your phone line. Plug in your test phone and check for a dial tone. If there is no dial tone, contact your telephone provider. They will fix this outside problem for free.

If the connection is not a RJ-11 jack, you will need to call the telephone company so that they can determine if the problem is inside or outside.

If you do have a dial tone, then the problem is with the inside wiring. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

Call forward will not turn off, have tried *74 & *73 , have rebooted and turned off then on, call divert symbol still on and phone calls still diverted.

To set Unconditional Call Forward ON Dial "*72" for a dial tone. Dial the forwarding number followed by "#". Wait for dial tone. LCD will display "Call FWD Activated"
To Cancel Unconditional Call Forward: dial "*73" and get the dial tone, then hang up. LCD will display "Call FWD Activated

but, since you have tried those two, it could be that there might still be a different type of call forward option that is still ON, on your phone like Busy Call Forward and Delayed Call Forward 1. To Cancel Busy Call Forward: dial "*91". Wait for dial tone. Hang up.
2.To Cancel Delayed Call Forward: Dial "*93" for a dial tone, then hang up.

Let me provide you a link to the website which I used as a reference for your future reference.

Hello, I have a Remo-Con Tone Dialer but I cannot remember How to use it ! What is it meant for ? Kind regards.

That's not a brand I remember, but it's most likely a tone generator from the days when you still found phones with rotary (pulse) dials. Before tone dialing was the standard, if you wanted to use any kind of service (banking, alternate long-distance phone carriers, etc.) from a rotary phone, you needed a dialer to generate the tones. You held it up to the mouthpiece on the handset and pressed the numbers on the dialer keypad. Some of these dialers also allowed you to store some phone numbers so you could quickly dial them if you were using a tone dialing service. As tone dialing has almost completely replaced pulse phones, you seldom see these devices except maybe at yard sales. They have no practical use any more.

Lost dial tone

is your unit is new?or your battery is new?if not, then it is probably your battery is cant say that a battery is GOOD if it still accepting a charge when you are going to charge...let me say that even if a power is stored on it ,you still can't say that it is still good.Becoz when a battery is weak, its current or ampere will become lower than the given specification when it was new. Thus, when a current is low,a batery can no longer supply the exact needs of the unit during the time of conversation, and thats the reason why it will shut down in just almost a minute of conversation even you know that it was fully charged .
