Bzzzing noise coming from monitor

My monitor is making noises, like an electrical bzzz. Could it be a corrupt profile or is it hardware? other than that, the monitor looks great.

Re: bzzzing noise coming from monitor

Its a bad power supply or a bad ballast. If it sounds like a hiss it will most likely be a capacitor. If it sounds like a crackle it is most likely a bad resistor. You can usually smell it when a component fails. It will smell like hot automotive brake.

Re: bzzzing noise coming from monitor

It the buzzing is directly from the back of monitor chances are its A noisey transformer.
This can be rectified by mixing up some epoxy resin type adhesive and spreading it over the windings of the noisey transformer.

It wont turn on.

If the power light does not come on and it makes a screeching noise, most likely its broken. I would contact the manufacturor, in case some warranty left.

The monitor is half dark, constantly flickering, makes electrical/static noise that is coming from the back, controls have no effect

This sounds like a serious electric short in the internal workings of the monitor. I highly recommend unplugging the monitor from electric power and taking it to a business that can diagnose it properly.
I'd hate to say check the power cable and other diagnostics you do yourself because the risk of shock and injury is high.
If you have a Best Buy locally they tend to be nice about doing quick diagnostics on this type of thing for free, but they do generally charge for all work done.
Hope this helps!

The screen wont come on after its been in sleep mode. it just makes a clicking noise and after some cord manipulation it comes back. sometimes. lately it takes forever t come back on

If your CM2019 will do same exact thing when connected to a "known-good" pc that has all power save, and sleep modes "disabled", you will need to troubleshoot units power supply/inverter circuit. Do some reading in the fixya profiles to find out about poor soldering and bad capacitors on printed circuit board. I'll bet it's poor solder connections of power transistors on inverter circuit, or bad capacitors. 12fixlouie

SyncMaster 793DF 17" CRT Monitor: monitor makes high pitch noise...

With a piece of wood or plastic hit the flyback with the monitor turned on. If you note some change in the noise. Replace the flyback.
Normally, it is the cause of the noise.

Warning: High Voltage!! Do at your own risk!!!!!!

When switching on the monitor v7 it makes a eletrical arcing noise bottom right corner. has to be switch on/off around 12 times for the screen to light up regards Tony

sales669, You or a qualified electronics technician will need to open unit for inspection and repair. Do not use unit if you smell ozone and continue to hear noise!!!! Any one or a combination of things can be causing your symptom. Do you have any possibility of doing warranty service, or is unit to old? In fact if it were me, I would disconnect it and use a spare unit until v7 lcd is repaired. Read more of my fixya profile to see if something fits your BLACK SCREEN problem. I would guess that your power supply inside of monitor needs some work done! 12fixlouie

I have no sound from my monitor speakers

Chances are you need to connect your monitor speakers by way of a USB cable. Look for a USB port on the monitor, connect it up and run the software that came with the PC to install the software to direct your sound to the monitor speakers.

This is general LCD monitor advice. I don't know your specific model. Your problem, however, is very common on many different monitors.

In 90% of cases, the problem is one or more failed electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. They are a simple matter to replace, but require desoldering the old ones and soldering in new ones, as well as general electrical/electronic safety practices.

If what I've just said already makes sense to you, then you're probably qualified - go ahead and replace them. If I'm talking greek, then go find an electronics nerd - some goofy looking guy wielding a soldering gun should do.

Monitor problem

Dear Booker3772,

From what you have written I assume you do not have a UPS system protecting the PC.

Unfortunately this mean that hardware has been damaged as electricity spikes have caused electrical stress to the components.

It would be helpfull to me if you where giving me a little bit more information but I will try to help. There are a few possibilities though that can narrow down the problem.

1. When you power up the system nothing happens - No noise no fans nothing. - Solution: The complete PSU or the fuse within is fried. (Change PSU and fire up again)

This is the most likely cause but these are also very possible.

2. When you power up the system the system fans, lights, hard disks make noise but you see nothing in the monitor except the sign. (The monitor's voltage regulation pcb is fried due to the storm) Try with a spare monitor if possible and if possible try the monitor to another PC

3. When you power up the system the system fans, lights, hard disks make noise but you see nothing in the monitor except the sign. If the monitor works fine, the PSU and the components seem to run fine most likely the components within the PC have been damaged. Not to the extend that a total failure is present but enough to create a mess. Some of the components will still probably be in good condition though. The only way to test them is by interchange one component with another.

In any case if the PC is still under warranty please go to a repair service centre and simply say that it stopped working. Do not mention storms, its your liability normally to protect the PC.

Problem when turning monitor off

mcdevito75 here LCD, or liquid Crystal display, chances are the crackling is the inside liquid display trying to capture the in comming electricity to make a display picture. Remember even an LCD is nothing more than a light bulb, a very intricate light bulb but a light bulb, and you have light bulbs burn out when you put them on and almost never as the are on burning. Turning the monitor itself off won"t really save electricity or the monitor itself as, when you shut down the computer from Start (left side of screen) the monitors screen saver comes on for 10--20 minutes then goes off, at this point the electricity is at the monitors on/off switch and not going thru the monitor at all. If you turn the monitor off at it"s on/off switch, the sudden jump of electricity to the monitor from it"s on/off switch could hurt it, or even the switch. I have a friend who turns off the monitor also and that friend had a bad monitor in 3 years. I never turn my monitor off just the computer itself. I'd speak with a Radio Shack, Staples, Best Buy ETC. for more advise. Me I;d say leave the monitor on. Hope this helps.
