My son's came with the same problem. I opened the casing and then the dvd drive (you tube videos did help) to realized that the dvd was not spinning. i used a connton swab and deposited a little rubbing alcool onto the center of the spinning hub waited a bit and then did the same thing with a bit of silicon lubrican. (something that will not dry up sticking. jig-a-loo worked for me) powered the unit with a blank dvd to ensure that any liquid would not damage my disk. the disk started spinning after a few try. Put back my original and boxed it... et wala

Mine was doing the same thing, I got the same message when it was standing up. As soon as i put it down flat it worked. Or if that doesn't work get a laser cleaner, the laser might be dirty if its an old system.

Cheers,

Microsoft Xbox have some common problem like red lights, E74 and Disc Read Error. Microsoft is providing extended warranty for red lights problem, Means you will have to spend some money in order to get this problem repaired from Microsoft also you will have to wait for 3-4 weeks to get your Xbox back. There are many reasons disc read error can occur in your Xbox like your disc might not be clean, laser might also be dirty and many more common problem. I would suggest you to first clean out the disc, you are using. If that don't solve the problem you can also take the help of DIY guide available at Internet. I think you have got good no. of options to get your Xbox repaired, Choice is yours.

Clean the disc with a soft cloth FFXI xbox360

this is caused by the n November update in the MS xbox360 dashboard. This is a problem with the xbox communicating with the hard drive. This usually occurs in xboxs that are not using the HD shipped with the console. According to square the only solution to this common problem is that you reformat your hd and intsall the game again. yes, you have have to wait for that dl to finish. square also states that there is a possiblity that this may re-occur after the second install, though rare.

A single unreadable xbox disc, all the others work

the only thing i can think of is taking the disc back and exchanging it for another gears of war 2 disc and try that if that one does the same thing then it appears the xbox doesn't like it thats all i can suggest :)

Disc unreadable

Dude mine does the same thing

What I do is pop off the front cover
find a black gear under DVD drawer and with game loaded move gear all the way to the left which engages drawer disc positioning to proper place for a "read" if I leave my disk partially raised it will scratch the disk!!!

This is what works for me-{out of warranty}

Xbox 360 unreadable disc

If you have a close-by friend check the game on his xbox to see if you get the same error. If you do not, then it is most likely your xbox. You may need to return it to Microsoft.

Try to insert the disc, power off the xbox, unplug it completely. Wait 30 seconds then plug everything in and power it back on and see if you get the same error message.

If none of these suggestions are an option, you may want to purchase a $10-$25 CD that has bristles that cleans the lens that reads the CD's inside the unit. (I know Maxell makes them) Then try the game again.

Won't read disc's

theres a known problem with the hitashi dvd drive in the xbox 360.
the only solution to this is a home repair job, look up on youtube on how to do this, although this isnt recommended as it voids warranty.
so the best way is definitely just to ring microsoft and send ur console in for repair.
