Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Will not run but hums

The unit will hum on its own for a few minutes and then stop. It will not always start or finish a cycle before quiting. Some mornings when we get up it will have the clean light on.

Sorry, its my first time asking for help. It is a Maytag model MBB5100AWW, Thank you for the advice, I will disassemble the unit and have a look. I did get it to operate earlier but had to turn it off myself after an hour or so as it would not stop on its own.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated

Well it would help if i knew the brand and model but basically something such as broken glass tooth pick olive pit etc is jamming the impeller on the wash motor start at the spray arm and disassemble down till you get to the impeller to see whats jamming it if you find nothing then try to turn it by hand fwd or backward if you cant do that replace the wash motor its kicking on overload because its jammed

My coleman evcon furnace just hums when i turn it on it doesnt engage the blower or fan thing it a quiet hum... Ready to call for repair but i wondered if there was something i could try..would like h

The hum could just be the control transformer, but that's usually a very light and barely perceptible hum. If its a louder hum, and it stops after a few minutes, the hum could be the blower motor refusing to start for any number of reasons, then cycling on its internal winding thermostat.

I'd call a service tech.

Whirlpool dryer runs, hums, then quits

Sounds like the motor is on it's last legs. Replace it. But, before paying huge money for a motor and the labor to install it, I suggest that you price a new dryer and compare it to the repair costs. It may still be a little more for a new dryer, but....IT'S NEW!

Outside unit starts but stops running in a few minutes. The rest of the a/c seems to be fine but doesn't cool

there could be quite a few problems with it. either it has something to do with the high or low safety pressure switches. Or you have a low voltage issue-not getting enough low voltage power to the coil of the contactor. how long do you wait after you turn the unit on? there is a 5 to 10 minute delay in the control board to keep the compressor from short cycling. meaning to keep the compressor from turning off then on again right away. short cycling a compressor too much will ruin it. There also could be an issue with the delay board it self. Or its a heat pump it could be an issue with the defrost board or the defrost sensor. I have even seen it to have a short in the wires of the coil of the contactor. But when that happens it will burn out the transformer or the low voltage fuse of the transformer or on the control board.

have you got it figured out already? If not can you give me more info on what it does? Or if it ever comes on after you wait at least ten minutes. Can you hear the hum the coil of the contactor makes when it is calling for the cooling. you might even have a problem with the contacts of the contactor not getting the proper power thru it to turn or keep the unit on.

Like I said there could be quite a few different possible issues with it to not stay on.

Candy CIV60 Tumbledryer - Reverse Action not working?

this could be something caught in the blower housing fan blade but what it sounds like is the motor is going into thermal overload (overheating)

Periodically cycles through a loud humming noise.

Hi, these are the early signs of compressor failure. i would put in a service call before it completely fails.

Humming noise, runs and stops thru out drying process.

You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.

Washer keeps stopping during any cycle

the humming noise could be from two sources and it is worth while doing a few simple checks first the drain pump is jammed with a foreign object. check nothing caught in the impellor second water not available - check taps turned on. also turn water off, undo fill hoses, put in a bucket and turn water back on try on drain or spin programs to check water drainage as well

Stalled Motor

quite possibly the drain pump which would cause it to stick in rinse cycle. the humming noise you heard is probably the drain pump powered up but jammed. likely cause is a foreign object stuck in the pump impellor - main culprit is bits of bra wire. take the pump to pieces and extract whatever is jamming it.
