Re: glass dirty on bottom side

Question is how to clean bottom of scanner glass. The HP link is not helpful, as HP only provides info for cleaning top of glass, and states that info for cleaning bottom of all-in-one scanner glass is "not available for any product". Cleaning underside requires HP service!

I want to clean the underside scanning glass of the HP C4180 scanner/printer because when I scann, the top is clean, but the scaned pictures look like they have little specks of dust all over the scanned...

It takes several steps to remove the glass carrier for cleaning, but it's not really difficult. You'll need a T10 Torx screwdriver, eyeglasses cleaner or similar, and a lint-free microfiber cloth.

1) Remove usb and power cables. Flip the front covers open (revealing the cartridge-insertion area). Remove 2 screws from the right-side panel, and remove that panel.

2) Open the photo-paper holder on the left side, depress plastic tabs on its top and bottom so it can swing out 90 degrees, and remove it.

3) Remove 2 screws from the left-side panel, and remove the panel. This exposes the gears of the paper-handling mechanism; take care not to move the gears. Disconnect the three ribbon cables connected the bottom circuit board.

4) Flip up the LCD, exposing a screw. (Note that this one is shorter than all of the others.) Remove the screw. Lift the scanner lid and remove two screws just behind the rear of the glass. Close the cover. Lift the rear of the glass carrier, then slide it back slightly to remove it. Take care not to move the scanner bar that remains in the main body of the machine.

5) Keeping the lid shut, flip the glass carrier over over. Spray cleaner on the glass and wipe; repeat as needed. I use a bright light at a low angle to check for particles on the glass.

To reassemble, just reverse the steps. Finish by cleaning the top of the glass.

I have a ricoh 2232c. Do you know how I can clean

In order to clean the optics, you have to remove the two optic covers (one over the **** glass on the left and one on the rear side of the main platen glass). Each cover should have 2 or 3 screws.

Clean the **** glass and platen glass with alcohol and a lint-free rag (both sides) and blow compressed air onto the mirrors, lamp, and reflector. It's a good idea to turn off the copier before doing this.

When reassembling, clean the white strip on the underside of the **** glass cover as well.

When I scan a document with a white bacground, it prints with a light grey background.

This is a fairly common problem with copiers. It is usually caused by a dirty optical path, an overtoned condition, or failing developer. If you are qualified to do so, I would say clean the optical path by removing the glass and cleaning the underside of the glass and all the mirrors.

HP 6110 scanner glass is cloudy

Here is how, but it seems a lot of work.

- Remove all the torx-screws
- Remove the little glass on the left side
- Remove the Control Panel Cover (lifted it a little with a screwdriver and released two latches)
- Remove the Control Panel itself (another two latches&move to the left)
- The whole top of the 6110 is attached to the bottom with 4 latches. I remove that, turn it around and clean the glass.

Note: The cables between 6110-bottom and control panel/feeding unit are long enough to set those things aside.

How to clean underside of platen?

The underside of the scanner glass can only be reached by a a canon service tech. The compartment is supposed to be sealed and dust-free, so if it has gotten dirty, you should send the unit back to Canon for servicing.

Dirty glass

As per my knowledge, you cannot clean the inner side of the glass untill you are expertised because it is all machine made and it depends on the aligning og the carriage which moves too and fro if the allignment is spolied then you will not be able to print aswell.
It is always recomended to cover the All-In-One.
And if your printer is in warranty you will get it replaced for free.
If not you can get a Out Of Warranty Upgrade from HP.
Call tech support and check the same.

Good Luck
