The problem could be a faulty inverter board or faulty CCFL lamp in the monitor. The problem could also be a faulty video card.
Connect another monitor to the computer to determine if the video card is OK. If it is OK then the problem could be the back-light fault caused by faulty inverter or CCFL lamp.
