Hi, I have a Kenmore (Quietguard) Dishwasher, Model # 587.15163401. The knob freezes half-way through the wash cycle and will run for hours endlessly, unless I manually rotate it forward. It manages to complete all the other cycles just fine.
What can I do to fix this problem? Any advice would help. Thanks. :)

- I am trying to test the heating element and the thermostat with an ohm-meter. The thermostat reads .2 and then settles at 0 ohm. The heating element reads 15 ohm. Is that within standard range, or does it mean one of these is not working properly?
If they are indeed fine, and it is my timer after all, how can I fix the "sticking" problem to help it advance smoothly?

- We fiddled with the timer a bit, then ran the dishwasher on a normal cycle (without high heat wash or dry), and it completed successfully without catching. If it catches again on the high heat wash glass cycle, then it's probably our thermostat or heating element. Your advice has helped us pinpoint the problems and eliminate suspects. :)
See if it is stuck on a water heat cycle. if the heater circuit or the thermostat is not working properly it will continue to run looking for a rise in temperature. If these are in working order the timer it self could be sticking and not advancing. Eric

- If you can, measure the water temperature entering the dishwasher and then check it again after it has "stuck". If the water is above 145 deg then the timer is bad. If the water has not heated then the element or wire is bad. The timer can sometimes be "freed" up by turning by had several times but usually ends up needing replaced anyways. There should be 120vac on the element during the water heat cycle.

- Congratulations, I knew you could figure it out. Thank you for the great rating. Eric

I can't figure out how to take apart the spray arm on my Kenmore dishwasher to see if there's anything stuck in there. The dishwasher is making a loud noise and I think there could be something stuck. I tried to unscrew it but it won't budge. Is it supposed to come off some other way?
