hmm, well, most mice are easily recognized by Vista with no trouble or software to install. You can usually do this by having it recognize hardware that's plugged in, in control panel. My best suggestion is that if the hardware recognition in control panel doesn't fix it, you can get an inexpensive USB optical mouse for around or less than 20 dollars at any decent store. Some older mice just cannot work with newer OSs, while basic mice never stop working. Go fig.
