Re: hook up

Have you changed the input on your television to reflect what port on your tv you plugged it into? You say the color codes match so you didn't use the coax. So I assume your most likely plugged into line 1 or 2 of your tv. If you have a snowing picture or you see a tv show, your not on the right input.

A black square appears in the middle of the screen whenever i turn the recorder on. model d-r560ku

First check if the problem is not from the television by trying to watch a normal channel on it. Once it is confirmed, try to hook up the DVD recorder on another television to see if the black box appears, then you use another set of prongs to connect it to the television to see if that will correct the problem.

If that does not correct the problem, then it simply means there is a hardware problem with the DVD recorder, and it most likely is that there is a bad capacitor on the main board of the recorder, and all you have to do is to replace it with a new one.

Take care and good luck

DVD hooked up to sony bravia tv: have dvd power on, but can not get any set up menus (or anything) from dvd to show on tv screen.Unable to set up remote as menu does not appear on tv screen.

Hook up the player with RGB (Red-Green-Blue or component) cables and try the picture. If everything works OK, then go to the menu and turn on the HDMI output and set the resolution (if needed).
Not every HDMI unit works with every HDMI TV. You may also have a bad HDMI cable. On a DVD recorder, you may have your HDMI cable connected to HDMI IN. You must use HDMI out.

Split screen

It appears that it has something to do with Progressive Scan been turned on. Progressive Scan is a feature built in your dvd player, wich by using it, it would give you a better picture//resolution on your tv, you need to use Component or HDMI cables to hook up the dvd to your tv if you want this settings, but if you are using composite RCA cables (Red,White & Yellow) and the Progressive funtion is turned on by accident, it may give you a split screen, black & white, or no picture problems. Also if you are using Component (Blue, Green & Red) cables, if one of them is unplug, the picture can be out of colors, or no picture. Check this things, if not, write back with more details about your set up.

Video In or INPUT

It depends on your television set but there are two common ways to do it. One way is through the menu function on your television. The other is by pressing the Channel down button on your television or remote control and the option will appear.
