Optoma RD50 Lamp Issues

I have an Optoma RD 50, I was receiving a msg that read "lamp is reaching end". I replaced the lamp. It came on worked for about 30 mins. I turned it off, when I turned back on, the lamp light turned solid red, after a few mins of it sitting there it powed down and went turned itself off. Also when it was playing I had about a 4in shadow on the right hand side of the screen.

Re: Optoma RD50 Lamp Issues

Hi. I had exactly the same issue after replacing my lamp last year using one of the cheap lamp options on ebay. What I found was that the lamp for the RD50 was changed at some point. The newer lamp has a higher ignition voltage (from memory old = 5kv and new = 15kv). Sometimes by luck an older RD50 can occassionally start one of the new lamps). All ebay lamps and cheaper options on the internet were e23h (new lamp). I needed the e23 (no h). Had to settle for $300+ lamp in casing and got them to check lamp was e23 (no h) before sending. All smiles again but cheaper lamp would have been nice. Hope this helps if you still have the problem.

Re: Optoma RD50 Lamp Issues

Replace the fuse thats on the little board beside the new lamp. that will reset the buld to new. I understand that the fuse will blow right after a new lamp is installed. It will reset the counter to 0.
Hope this helps

Optoma RD-50 DLP has dark vertical shadow on right side of screen

turning off the main can be very harmful to rear projectors if you dont wait for the cooling off period, for instance when you turn off the tv from the remote, the fans inside are still on in order to dissipate the heat given out by the lamp. as a result some of the lens inside the engine may have burns-in caused by excess of heat.thus leading to shadows on the screen.

hope this helps

My Optoma HDTV Model RD50 needs replacement of its internal lamp. Which model lamp is the correct one and how much does the lamp cost? Regards - Lee

Call Optoma technical support listed on the optomatv website. They will ask for the set serial number. Based on the serial number, they will tell you which replacement lamp is the correct model for your TV. (I found this out after ordering the wrong replacement lamp based simply on the model number of my TV and finding that it did not fit.)

I turn on the tv but I get no picture (black screen). A sound starts when I turn on the tv. The sound ( like a humming noise) fan perhaps which goes up and down for about a minute then the tv shuts off and...

Sounds like a problem with the color wheel. Unfortunately the color wheel is located inside the light engine. According to everything I have read, the only thing you can do is replace the light engine. You are better off replacing the TV. The light engines can run form $750 to $1400. Which is ridiculous!

Need a new lamp for RD50 tv.

Good Day, jo;
When getting a new lamp it is less expensive and faster to purchase the needed lamp from the manufacture of TV. (Make sure you have model number at hand). They will send lamp directly to your home, the lamp will have enclosed instructions on replacement and any special tools you may require. It is very simple and will only take about 15 minutes at the most to replace.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

Ghost images!

I had the same problem, reset the lamp hours by pressing 'menu, 619 , menu" and browsing until I found the setting, but then I also saw an option to test the lamp.  The TV shut off when I tried this and 2 red lights indicating a new lamp is needed came on instead.  It's probably the ballast and not the lamp, but I don't know that I want to put any more money into this set.  I have only had it 2 years.

Lamp light on picture off

You might try unplugging the set for maybe 20 mins. to see if that might help in resetting the internals. Good luck!

Optoma RD50 Picture Flashing ghost images

Hello! Just a little additional info if you will on what might to expect. This is according to the repairman where my tv is still in the shop after almost 2 wks because of the need for parts: other than the lamp the only place to get other parts (ballast and color wheel) is from Optoma and if yu need the color wheel you will have to purchase the entire assembly ($999.99) because they do not sell it separately. If anyone knows differently please let me know for I am between a rock (not really) and a hard place.
