When I turn the tomtom on i simply get s 'home screen' with what look like a stearing wheel and a finger pointing to the windscreen. No matter what i do this happens. I have tried downloading latest tomtom updates all to no avail. Help!!!!
Email Customer Service and let them know of this issue. Don't waste your life calling. I had the same problem and they are sending me out a replacement unit, and asking me to return the defective unit thereafter.

Connect your TomTom to the USB cable then turn on your TomTom in that order. Go to "My Computer" and open the drive that is your TomTom. Copy and paste your map folder to the desktop. Delete everything on your TomTom (don't format). After deleting everything on your TomTom. Open TomTom Home. TomTom Home will tell you, you need an application for your TomTom. Let TomTom Home load the application. You will probably have to do this at least 2 times to get the latest application for your device. After TomTom Home has loaded the latest application for your device closer TomTom Home and copy and paste your map back onto your TomTom. You should be ready to go after doing this. Make sure you do not skip a step when doing this.
TomTom Home now has a fix which corrects the stuttering problems with the computer voice needed for the 'text to speech' function on the GO720. Simply plug your device into your computer and have it connect with your computer. You should automatically see a large fix available which will correct the problem. Download it as I did, and the problem is corrected.
I was having a similar problem where i would go through the setup screens until I was selecting the map and then it would restart. What worked for me was to connect it to my computer and choose Operate My Device from the third page of options in TomTom Home. This let me progress through the remaining set up screens and get to the point where I could enter an addres again.
Don't know if this will work for everyone, but it seems to have done the trick for me.
Are you talking about the easyport mount on the XL 330S model? If so it applies fairly easily in a secure snap. When I tested out the new mount, it was fairly easy to snap on without any added pressure. TomTom has great customer service and I'm sure they'll help out to the best of their ability and if it was in fact defective, you're bound to get a replacement. TomTom doesn't want any unhappy consumers. It's a shame it broke, because it is actually a great device.
A component fault on the units internal antenna circuit board.
ribbon cable has become detatched inside that connects antenna board with main circuit board.
A software fault.
A component fault on the processor board.
All the above except number 3 will require proffessional investigation. if its a software fault then you may be able to recover data by a re-install through TomTom Home or by recovery backup ( you did make a backup of your SD card , didn't you ? ) of your SD card.
If your device freezes at the start-up screen after you turn it on or your device is looping, the TomTom application may not be installed properly.
See some examples of start-up screens here. The image may vary on previous TomTom devices or if you have replaced the image.
Before you begin, make sure you have TomTom HOME installed on your computer (www.tomtom.com/home ).
To solve this, follow the steps below. Remove the current application
1. Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable or dock.
2. Reset your device.
3. Turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
Your device should automatically connect to the computer upon reset. If your TomTom device asks you if you want to connect to your computer, tap YES.
4. Run TomTom HOME.
5. In the Main Menu of HOME click on Remove items from my device.
6. Click on the plus symbol next to Applications. Click in the checkbox on the right to select the application.
7. You will be prompted to confirm the selection, choose Yes.
8. Click on Remove selected items.
9. Choose OK.
10. You will be asked to copy the item to your computer before removing, do not copy the item. Instead, choose Back.
The application will then be removed.
Reinstall the TomTom application:
1. Start TomTom HOME.
2a. If you previously updated your device on this computer, click Add Maps, Traffic, Voices etc. and then click Items on my computer. You can install the application by clicking the plus symbol and then Add.
2b. If you never updated your device on this computer, click Update my device.
If HOME asks you to Unplug your TomTom device, try clicking OK first. If HOME notes that a problem has occured, click Back.
3. HOME offers to download and install the latest version of the TomTom application.
4. After the application has been installed, click Done and then click Device > Disconnect Device.
Your device should now start-up again. Since you have reinstalled the application, please allow a full 2 minutes for the TomTom device to fully boot.
