When I connect my EOS 40D to my PC, the EOS Utility either doesn't start so I have to open it manually. That alone isn't a big deal, but the Download option is not highlighted. Also, when going through My Computer, the camera is not recognized. My PC seems to operating normally for everything else and I rebooted just to make sure. So is there a problem with my camera or the software or the cord or...?

    Thank you!

    To Hummergirl:

Lucky you, I have the same problem but can't get a working solution.

What settings did you change? Which system do you use?

I agree! Get a Compactflash card reader, they are very inexpensive! They are also faster and easy to use.

I also was getting the same problem. After talking to Canon Troubleshooting, they told me that it could be that my computer's setting is not setup to accept pics from my camera. When I changed the settings on my computer, it exports my pics instantly! They also told me that "BUSY" flashing while hooked up to my computer, is normal. The "BUSY" flash is letting you know that your camera is hooked up to a device. Hope this helps!

Try restarting your computer or try it on a different computer, "Busy" usually means something is preventing your computer from reading the camera. If that does not help, try calling Radio shack or Staples.

open device manager, connect camera, it will be seen briefly with yellow triangle and exclamation mark. open it up and uninstall.
Disconnect camera and close windows down. Restart windows, connect camera and switch on, windows will then find it and install driver. Took me hours to figure this one out

Switched to MAC - have EOS40D and SX100 - will not download SX100

Yes, you need to install the SX100 driver software as well. I wouldn't overwrite older versions of the Canon software, though, so do a selective install if you can.

No image on lcd

You need to enable the "live view" mode in the menu, then "set" live view as needed. When you are in this mode the shutter is open and the lens is flipped up to allow the image to hit the sensor and then to your preview screen. Because of this, the camera can't auto-focus, but there is an over-ride mode.

You may find the "video user's manual" links on this page useful to help you find and understand all the functions of your 40D.

Canon 40D LCD Wont come on buSY flashes in view finder

Okay, this is simple. Your camera can take several pictures at one time in a burst. However when you release the shutter button your processor takes a second to actually SAVE the pictures to the card in the camera. One thing than has helped me in my wedding photography business is to buy the fastest speed cards I can find. It significantly reduced my "busy" time.

Are you using Photoshop or Photoshop elements? Most other imaging programs will not open raw files.
