Re: dark lines on the sscreen
This indicates that there are bad connections in the cabling going to
the display panel. Usually there are tiny connections along the
top of the panel that rely upon pressure to hold the contact material
to the panel contact and if the assembly is not right, gaps form in the
picture like you describe. Sometimes just sqeezing on the units
cabinet in the area of the gaps is enough to affect the problem.
May need to go inside and work on the contact assembly.

My 3-year old 52-inch Toshiba flat panel TV (Model # 52RV53U, Serial # AM409000295) developed a display problem (purchased Aug. 2008, manufactured July 2008). Vertical multicolored lines appeared on the screen just left of center. The band of thin vertical bars is 5.5 inches wide. The lines are about 1/16-inch wide. They are stationary, always exactly in same place. They over-ride any other picture on the screen (no transparency). They are there all time even with no video inputs to the TV after the unit is turned on. See picture #1. The TV works well in every other respect, but, obviously, it is annoying to watch the picture with the color band blocking about 1/6 of the picture.

I already swapped out the TCON board with no improvement and replugged the TCON board cables with no improvement.
Most likely it is the flat panel tab bond failure (panel made by Samsung). Further solution updates will be on my Facebook page.
You have bad capacitors next and near the vertical IC. You will also need to resolder the pins of the vertical IC. Check and replace capacitors.Find a capacitor checker to find these. If you know of a hobbiest or electronic tech, have them this for you! Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!
Yes,This tv have two problems. One is the power supply board have dead capacitors, need it to replaced, the other is the vertical lining board on the bottom near the speakers need all the old lining to resolders. The shop will cost u $ half to repair,it to buy a new tv.
Hello Depending how wide the line is their could be two possible causes.
I have two questions for you.
1. How wide is the line.
2. Does it run from top of screen to bottom of screen?
If the line is thin a single strait line then it is possible the PDP has gone Bad (Panel). (Screen). The screen will to be replaced.
If the line is at least 2 or more inches wide then its a buffer board which can be replaced. LG calls this board Hand insert Boards or display driver boards..
At nearly 5 years old its probably better getting a new TV, not only will you be getting much better new technology but paying for repairs on a tv that could breakdown again in 3 months and cost even more.
Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.
