Blue Light Not On

By pianoman0000 on Oct 22, 2009

I have a wacom intuos 3 tablet, and have owned it for about a year, using it about once a week. However, this week when I went to use it, I had no response from the mouse, nor the pen. The blue light on top is off and has not lit up, even if I plug it in a different USB hub. After downloading the new drivers (10/20/2009) and several restarts, as well as trying every USB hub on the computer, I still get no response from my tablet.

- I should mention that I am running a laptop as well, powered out of a docking station. Should I let the battery die out on my laptop and then recharge it before plugging in the tablet again? Also, when I have the Wacom_tablet.exe, it pops up with a message after a few minutes saying "the tablet driver is not running." Finally, I have never received a USB not working prompt. Both my wireless mouse and keyboard, flash drives, and other USB devices are working properly. Thanks for the response, though.

- Hm. With all other external devices unplugged, I get no change in the Device Manager USB controllers whether my tablet is unplugged or plugged in. And I have downloaded the most recent drivers from a few weeks ago. I'll try the battery thing now.

- Well, no beans. I drained the battery and removed the battery, then put the battery back in and started it up. The light is still not lighting up. Also, when I try to run the prefrences executable, I get an error message that says "A supported tablet is not found on the system".

Clarification Request

Had the same problem and just solved it. Very easy. Turn off your computer. Pull the power cable. Wait about 5 minutes. Plug it back in and power it back up. No more USB not working prompt in your device manager and your tablet should be back and running.

Check out your Universal Serial Bus controllers in your Device Manager. If anything is amiss there I would suggest you turn the computer off and remove the battery. That would be the equivalent of pulling the power cable. All my other devices worked as well in all USB ports. Just not my tablet. I think once the box is turned off you can hold the power button down for a minute or so which (used to anyway) guarantees all power is discharged.

And definitely go to the Wacom site and download the latest drivers. They have some very recent updates available.

- Well, I reckon the only thing left to try is if the tablet works on another computer. At least then you know if it's your box or the tablet itself.
