Periodically my Hotpoint Aqualtis gives a "please shut the door" message and will not lock . There is no problem with the door lock. I clean the machine filter and the water inlet filter (where the machine is plumbed in) and that sorts it everytime. Pity it doesn't give a "clean your filters" message and I would have saved the price of a new door mechanism- still sealed in package as I found this solution online before I attempted to fit it.

Firstly, lets start simple. Have you noticed the door lever/handle has got "floppy"? or loose? or easy to squeeze?
This is the most common reason, what happens is there are 2 bits of spring steel behind the handle, these either break or become weak, to test this theory, close the door, put your finger between the handle and the door and push the handle towards the glass, if this works then you need a new spring/handle.

Sounds like the door lock switch has failed,normally they go bang when fail,they start the machines cycle so are important,when door is shut it should click,this engages a timer which keeps door locked switch is live at mains potential,cant be tested have to be replaced about 12 pounds cost,best for a tech unless you feel competent

thank you but door handle is fine, tried new door interlock but light still flashing
