All you need to do is make sure you have the correct type of RAM (SDRAM, DDRAM, DDR2, DDR3).

You can use Newegg's memory configurator to find out which type of RAM you need using this link :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductConfigurator.aspx?plf=10&category=17&name=Memory-Configurator

Also, remember that some motherboards can not handle more than 1GB of RAM.

No, just make sure its compatible with the motherboard. Power down (unplug the power cord - just being safe).
Remove side case, install RAM and power back up. It should tell you that the configuration has changed, confirm (it doesn't always ask).and it will recognize the RAM.

Hi, if i assume you mean 2gb rather than 2mb. This will not be possible as i believe the 5100 will only take sticks up to 1gb. However that model has 4 slots so you could go with 4 1gb sticks, you wont have to do anything on the computer just pop out the old ones and place in the new.
One thing to be careful of is the type and speed of ram that is compatible, apparently the 5100 can use DDR2 either 400-MHz or 533-MHz.

Hope that helps

My computer doesn't recognize my wireless card and has no wifi utility

Did you install the software first? The Belkin card should have had a CD with drivers. I believe the directions say to install the software first, then install the card.
Also, the min. specs are listed on the Belkin box. Check to be sure your computer meets them.

Screen will not light up and there is beeping at the start up?

Hello tiann3

The beeping as you start the computer is basically a message telling you what is wrong with it.

if you have slow and somewhat long beeps it generally means memory 9RAM) problem. could be faulty or loose RAM. If you have more than one piece of RAM you can test them by turning the computer on with one piece of RAM at a time.

If the beeps are faster and shorter, it means problem with graphic card (if your graphic card is on integrated).

good luck

Dell dimension 5100 will not boot, numbers 2 and 4 illuminated on front panel

According to the manual this indicates a possible failure of the graphics card. The solutions from your manual: • If the computer has a graphics card, remove the
card, reinstall it (see page 71), and then restart
the computer.
• If the problem still exists, install a graphics card
that you know works and restart the computer.
• If the problem persists or the computer has
integrated graphics, contact Dell (see page 116).

The manual is available as a PDF at:

I hope this helps.

hi there, it may not be the mother board, it may be that the graphics card doesn't have the drivers for your system. Bring it to a computer shop and they will install the drivers for you.

Upgrade graphic card

Your RAM is expandable to 4GB. 400-MHz and 533-MHz DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM is your type.
For your graphics card, you may use either a PCI slot or PCIeX slot. You'll get the best performance if you use the PCUeXpress slot.Price would be determined by the vendor from which you purchase it. Installation is as simple as installing the drivers from the CD that comes with it and pushing the card into the slot after you have turned off the PC and removed the cover. Instructions for that can be found at
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/index.htm
I use nVidia cards myself and find them reliable and easy to configure. Let me know if you have any other questions. Please rate my answer.

Dell Dimension 5100 won't start with new FireMV 2400 PCI Express video card

Did you check to make sure the video card is installed in the right spot? Has the onboard video card been disabled in Windows - and when you say it will not boot, do you mean physically no POST. Do you get any error codes? If you can get into the CMOS (Bios) Setup screen - change the primary display adapter from the onboard to AGP, PCI, or PCI-E depending on which card that is. Use this information at your own risk - hope it helps.

Memory module

Your motherboard supports 533MHz memory modules, no more. If you put anything higher in, it will work, but only at the speed of 533MHz, so there's not much point in aiming any higher. Just make sure what you're buying is a DDR2 533MHz memory module, and it's best to get them in increments of 2. If you have 4 slots on your motherboard, get another 2x512MB modules of RAM. If you're running Windows Vista, it might be worth considering 2x1GB modules. I think that pretty much covers your question, if you have anything else to ask, feel free to reply.
