Re: system is going to crash soon

Hi kra, you say windows is going to crash soon? Ok no prob, your going to need your original Cd's or dvd, that came with your dell. Once you have the first disc in there, it should boot to that cd and start a wizard to reinstall windows on your puter, if it doesn't you'll have to press f12 after the first screen you see and tell it to boot from cd, you don't have to press it 20 times, just once, till you hear a beep. That simple. But Why reformat? You've always heard if it ain't broke don't fix it. you may not want to get rid of all your files you have now, in that case do a repair install of windows, if you don't care about anything on there, do a complete install. Make sure to tell it a full format, instead of a quick one, and this whole process should take 45 minits to an hour and a half. Good Luck

Assuming that you have Windows XP home, here is a link that explains how to do a reinstall.
Scroll down about halfway to where it says "Steps to XP clean install"

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

I was able to dig this up.

Run Windows in safe mode.
Create a registry key REG_SZ key and call it MSIService and value data and call it Service, which is the windows installer. This will give you permission to uninstall windows service Pack 3 from add/remove programs while in safe mode.

I have lost everythin on other devices so i cant connect to the interntet could u help me solve this problem

When you say u lost everything does this mean your pc crashed or you have reinstalled windows. I have worked with dell lots so i know you will have a disk that says drivers unless u lost it. You have to install all of the drivers from there but more important you have yo install your network drivers to be able to go online. Just pop this cd in and follow the prompts and install network drivers. This will allow you to get online. If you dont have the cd you can get online on another pc and go to and get divers from there. Just type in your pc model or service tag number and OS and it will give you everything you need. Hope this helps.

No sound on my pc

Go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices
Ensure that sound card is the default playback and default recording device.
Also, if this is a Dimension 5100, then there is a possibility that the system has a upgrade sound card installed in a PCI expansion slot (Below the video card)
If the system has an expansion card, (Soundblaster) then the integrated on-board audio should be disabled in the BIOS (If integrated is on and an expansion card is installed, you get a conflict and no sound) Normally, if the system has an expansion card, the ports are covered with a black plastic cover. If the BIOS defaults are ever reset, then onboard audio needs to be disabled again.

Dimension 5100 and windows xp pro SP3 clean install

Well if you have it installed on the computer and cant get past the Windows logo. Put the SP3 disk in and do a repair. Make sure you hit -R and not the repair button after clicking continue. Well the directions for a repair will be on the screen. That is my thoughts on what you should do. If you have already done this, then I'm not sure where you should head to next. Hope this helps!!

Need to purchase recovery disk for pc desktop DELL DIMENSION 4550

You can do it two ways:
1) call Dell and order a recovery CD--their contact info is on
2) use a regular Windows CD and install the system using the product number affixed to the case. Then go to Dell at to download the needed drivers.

Reload windows

Hi Dragon,

Try pressing the Ctrl and the F11 key at the same time, right after you boot the PC. You might have to try this a few time, because the time slot of this option is fairly narrow. Should give you the restore partition. Then just follow the prompts. Good Luck!

Dell 3100

Good day, Forwork

I recommend, you take out the hard drive, put in the other IDE port, presumming is IDE drive, and let the DVD cd rewritable on Cable Select.
Another try, is Start Up on Save mode, and uninstall the drivers for your particular CD/DVD device, and restart your PC, then the system Should install them automatically, or you can do it manually. this should fix your problem.
Good Luck! (presuming you use Windows Xp)
