Question about Philips DVDR3455H/37B

Philips dvdr3455/37 won't come all the way on

I have had this unit for over 1 year. Its a Philips DVDR3455/37. The past few weeks the dvd player has been buggy. As in it won't open when the button is pressed. Then yesterday it would not come up to the playing state. I have unplugged it and let it set for some time then plugged it back in. It gets to the name philips and stops. No response from the remote or the on off switch on the front of the unit. If I unplug it and plug it back in I get the time on the display. Then turn it on and it goes to the Philips display and stops. It seems like a firmware hang but not sure. I also hear a noise like the dvd wanting to move the tray but not sure. As it is out of warranty I could open it up but don't know what to look for.
Thanks for your help on this matter.

Thanks bmckinlay for your reply. I tried this and the dvd keeps popping out without loading the firmware. The text says load but it doesn't. The dvd is spinning and the screen on the TV has Philips on it.

I found a work around for the problem where I boot up from DVD then don't power it off. Th e following is what I did to accomplish this:
1) I created a DVD with the latest firmware for the DVDR3455 put on it.
2) I plug the unit in, then while powering on the player I hold in the DVD open/close button. You will eventually get the text "LOAD" on the front display.
3) I then manually open the DVD door (see "dvd won't eject" on fixya web site) and put in my DVD with the firmware on it and close the door.
4) When the DVD door closes the player will read the firmware from the DVD. You will see the text "COPY" and "BOOT" displayed on the front, then it will go back to "PHILLIPS".
5) If you have your TV still connected to the player you will see the 3 free trial of YES dvd displayed on the screen. Press OK and you everything should be working.

Then you just have to pray that you don't loose power or you will have to go through all of this again.

This is pain but at least I can still use the player and get more use out of it.

hello. Begin by replacing the batteries in your remote. If that does not make a difference go to any walmart or radio shack and purchase a universal remote control.

Hi, my Philips DVDR3455H/75 DVD/Hard disk doesnt

THE DVDR3455H HAS A COMMON PROBLEM AFTER A FEW YEARS THE HARD DRIVE GO BAD, IT WONT BOOT UP
99% OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE PHILIPS DVDR3455 IS THE HARD DRIVE.
IT WILL KEEPING REEBOOT OR IT WILL HANG ON THE PHILIPS LOGO.
IT IS NOT A FIRMWARE PROBLEM IT AHARD DRIVE PROBLEM.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW, IF THE HARD DRIVE IS BAD YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE IT WILL NOT READ THE CD OR DVD DISK.
AT THIS POINT IT NOT LOOKING FOR A FIRMWARW DISK BUT IT LOOKING FOR THE BOOT UP SOFTWARE.
OR THE LOAD CD WHAT PHILIPS CALL IT.

SOLUTION REPLACE THE HARD DRIVE WITH THE LOAD SOFTWARE INSTALL ON IT.
THE HARD DRIVE IS SOLD ON EBAY JUST LOOK FOR DVDR3455H YOU WILL FIN NEW DRIVE READY TO INSTALL THAT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM.

Dvdr3455/37 stopped working

I had the same problem - and here is how I fixed it.

When it was booting/re-booting I ejected the disk (I needed it out anyway since I assumed the unit was dead.) After ejecting the disk it display "load" on the unit. I read in another message board that this means the unit is looking for the firmware disk. I went to http://www.usasupport.philips.com/productDocuments.html?ProductCode=DVDR3455H/37&subCat=DVD_HARDDISK_RECORDERS_SU_US_CONSUMER

I followed the instructions to make the "upgrade CD" and inserted into my DVR. My unit then powered up normally. I went ahead and upgraded the software and it did happen again (the re-boot cycle) until I entered the date/time.

DVD player cannot read any DVDs. Says "Region Error"

I Just started getting this same error. All the way down to the "Philips" logo. I wrote to Yamaha to report the problem and all they would (or could) tell me was to take it to any authorized Yamaha repair center (Best Buy). I sure would like to know if you got any resolution to your question in Mar. If not, what did you do?
