You need to give better info then that. What kind of tractor? Is the bracket welded or bolted on? Etc.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

I will need to know what brand and model number of the unit you have? Let me know.

I changed the belts and a spring fell off the top pulley, where dos it go

Hi Cookie:
The spring will probably attach to the bracket that holds the idler pulley against the belt. With the engine off, have someone move the control levers. Watch to see which pulley moves back and forth. That one should have a hole in the mounting bracket that the spring will hook into, and the other end of the spring will hook into another hole or notch.
Patience...... You'll find it.

Blade still running after lever is disenagaged on Sears Craftsman LT2000 2010 riding mower.

the moveable arm that the blade engage pulley is attached to has a hole for a spring as well as the deck (or at least an attached immoveable bracket). spring goes there to bring the blades to a stop when putting the lever in the off possition.

Craftsman Lawn Tractor runs but does not cut grass?

Above deck, below tractor is black cable which has spring on end and goes to a tensioner pulley.
This cable should be locked into a bracket with a retainer pin and then its spring tip (rounded) goes around the top of tensioner pulley axle then a small washer on top and then retainer pin goes through this tensioner pulley axel shaft tip to hold spring onto it.

Found large spring at end of cable unattached lying on top of deck cover. Where does the spring attach in order to engage the blades on the riding mower? The lever is very loose and when checking, I found...

There are 4 pulleys on your deck. Two for the blades, these are the big ones on the outsides. To the insides there are two, one on left side is an idler and the one on the right is a tenioning pulley that hooks to the blade engage lever throught the cable you found. Look on top of this pulley and see if it has a piece sticking up. If so the spring at the end of the cable attaches here. Slide it over. You also need to find the clip that goes through the little hole in the end that keeps it from sliding off. Make sure that the cable is properly routed and attached near the back of the deck. If it is still attached, good, if not you will have to find that pin also.

Removed mower deck with no problems. Cannot re-attach. Do you have a step by step instruction for this process?

1. Raise attatchment lift lever to its highest position
2. Slide the mower deck under the tractor with deflector shield (grass Chute) to right side of tractor
3. Lower lift lever to its lowest position
4.. Connect the front links to the mower deck and secure with the retainer springs.
5. Connect thye suspension arms to the rear deck brackets and secure with their retainer springs.
6. Connect the anti-sway bar to the chassis bracket and secure with the retainer spring.
7. Push the clutch cable housing guide into the bracket, and slide the collar onto the guide and
secure it with the large retainer spring.
8. Place the flat washer and clutch spring on the idler pulley bolt and secure them with the small
retainer spring.
9. Re-install the blade belt onto the engine pulley it goes on.

Mounting a mower deck

position it under the mower then lift the rear end first and fit the link eyes through the deck mount holes. Then go to the front and lift the deck up to the link eyes, making sure the belt is on the correct side of each one. Fit the retaining clips to each link eye. Hook the tension spring through the hole at the back of the deck then go to the rear of the machine and pull the spring back and hook it onto the bracket under the axle. I use a fencing wire hook and a pair of vise grips to make this task easier. Then fit the deck belt onto the deck pulleys and finally run the belt around the motor pulley using the blades to turn it over. Refit the pulley guards and you should be in business

Craftsman 20hp tractor starts with mower engaged.

OK. You have one of two problems, or maybe a combination of the two.lol. Either the clutch cable that runs from the lever to the deck is frozen, or most likely, the pivot point on the idler arm on the deck is rusted up and is not disengaging. Spray some penatrating oil at the base of the bracket the idler pulley is mounted on (pivot point) while working it back an forth until is loosens up. There is also a spring that is hooked to the idler arm and to a slot in the middle toward the front of the deck to pull the arm forward when the blades are disengaged. Make sure that is in place also.
