Almost always, wireless mouse makes use of the USB port to connect its base/receiver. Depending on the exact model of the Dell desktop, there would normally be USB ports at the rear of the computer. Some others have 2 USB ports at the front or side.
your mouse should have came with a USB plug that youan simply plug into your computer on any USB outlet. IF you have a older computer, more than 7 or 8 years, you may not have a USB outlet. After that you will need the drivers for the mouse to work. should have aCD or go to mouse manufacturers website to get them.

wireless mobile mouse 4000. Was working fine for 2months, closed laptop lid for an hour, opened it back up and mouse don't work... the little usb thingy, is extremly hot... pulled it, restarted computer, still don't work. Got a notice saying that "usb not recognized". I reenstalled the drivers, still same thing... the usb thing get's very hot in seconds... pls help
