this is what i could find out.
. Press the "Stop" button three (3) times.
or read up more at this link. You are now ready to use your new Panasonic Microwave Oven. When you first turn on your microwave oven and under normal operation the "CHILD LOCK" feature is off. If "LOCK" or "CHILD" appears on your display . . . Press the "Stop" button three (3) times and the "CHILD LOCK" will be turned off.
The "lock" function is nice if you have kids who like to push buttons. It disables the microwave oven to prevent it from running unnecessarily, To disable the lock feature push the "STOP-CLEAR" button. Then press and hold the "START" button until 'locked' is no longer shown on the display panel. To re-lock it, do the same thing until 'locked' appears on the display. Have a nice day.
The operation manual is available for free download from Samsung at this site:
The answer to how to lock and unlock is on page 15 of the manual. It's instructions are:
1. Press the '0' button, the display will show:
"PRESS 1- DEMO 2-CHILD LOCK"
2. Press the "2" button, the display will show:
3. Press the start button and the display will show "LOCK" then returns to the time of day.
At this point the microwave can't be used. To unlock, just repeat steps 1-3.
Hope this helps
mine just did this too, its the inverter type. I finally found the instructions. It goes in lock when start is pressed 3 times. It can be unlocked by pressing the stop/reset button 3 times, the clock should come back up in the display window. Good luck
My Kenmore Elite microwave (don't have the model number in front of me) also mysteriously locked its own keypad (we were sitting in an adjacent room, heard a strange beep, and got up to find the LED reading "Locked."). I pressed and held down the Stop/Clear button for ~10 seconds and it returned to normal.
First, be sure the child lock is off. It may have an "L" or the word "LOCKED" showing in the display.
You can unlock it by pressing and holding the CLEAR pad for 5 seconds or so. Your model may use a different key, maybe the "0" (zero) key.
If that doesn't fix it, since it's still under warranty you should grab your sales receipt and your owner's manual and call LG / Goldstar customer service at 1-800-243-0000 to find the nearest authorized servicer.
There may be some foreign substance on the circuit board or inside the layers of the keypad. Most commonly this is due to spray cleaner being sprayed directly onto the keypad.
Cleaner should be always sprayed on a soft cloth first, then use the cloth to wipe the keypad clean.
Always use alcohol-based cleaner on microwaves, never ammonia-based cleaner, which can crack and/or warp the plastic.
If this is what has happened, it would not be covered under warranty, and it may or may not be repairable.
A handy person can remove the control panel frame and see if there's any liquid inside on or behind the panel.
If so, it is possible to dry it out with an air compressor or heat, but often that does not work.
To lock or unlock the keypad, press and hold the CLEAR pad for 5 seconds.
If this recurs, you may have a power line problem or trouble with your controller.
If you suspect trouble and it's under warranty, don't hesitate to contatc GE via ge.com.
