Hi,
This issue could be due to number of reasons it could be due to the printer hardware device or the cartridge. So the best way to fix this issue is to try few steps to isolate where the problem lies, follow the steps given below to isolate and fix the issue.

  1. Make sure that you have installed the Black cartridge in the Black slot and in the blue slot. Also make sure that the cartridge that you have installed is not refilled or of different brand cause Lexmark printers often give errors when you use a refilled cartridge or a cartridge of a different brand so use genuine Lexmark cartridges of the same number which matches the printer.
Note: For your convenience to make sure that you have installed the cartridge in the right slot you can download the printer manual for the Lexmark website, here is the link for you to download and see the instructions:
http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/6300/eng/setupsh.pdf

  1. Remove both the cartridges form their slots and interchange them, yes put the Black cartridge in the Blue slot and the Color cartridge in the Black slot, then close the top cover of the printer and power off the printer and restart it, at this point of time check if the error message is changed or not if the error message is not changed and till showing the same as “ Install the black cartridge in the left” this indicates that the cartridge is good and there printer device has some issues. In this case try to update the printer device form the Lexmark website if available or you will have to replace the printer as there are no further steps that you can try to fix the issue.

  1. If the message changes to install the color cartridge in the right then it means that the cartridge is having some issues. In this case remove the black cartridge form the slot and clean the metal contacts of the cartridge with a soft dry cloth, make sure that you are using a dry cloth and not a paper napkin which could be harmful to the cartridge. Also make sure that you fix the cartridge firmly and the top snap of cartridge holder inside the printer is also fixed firmly. If this does not fix the issue then replace the black cartridge.

Accept anyway. This is a problem with vista - it wants to assign it's own driver and doesn't like outside software such as Lexmark's.

'Left cartridge incorrect' error message. Have tried changing the cartridge, cleaning the cartridge, running a flush cartridge etc but will not recognise the cartridge and so will not print. is it...

These printers monitor the cartridges and dont like you using aftermarket ie non Lexmark, or not made by lexmark cartridges. So Im wondering If you have tried 2 x brand spanking new OEM Lexmark cartridges, or if you are trying to use cheaper from net remanufactured or "for use in lexmark" cartridges. If this is the case then this is your problem and also very common.

Are you using a photo cartridge and a normal color one?

These I beleive can not be mixed in different slots.
- Photo cartridges you will only need one installed on the left side.
- Normal ink you will need two installed (Black on left and color on right) .

Also Lexmark themselves have a couple of documents on this issue, here and Here

But these efforts will all be useless unless you are using Brand New Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) Cartridges. This I see day in and day out, I get a lot of people tell me they are using original when they are not in fact, You will know by the price and lexmark carts do not state "for use in"

I dont think it is a problem with the printer, if you are using both brand new OEM cartridges then the firmware fix from lexmark should solve or you are trying to mix Photo type and normal type carts.

But these days ink jet printers are non repairable (well too costly and uneconomical to repair) throw away items, the expense is in the inks and manufactures vertually give away the printers so you will buy their inks, and lexmarks are designed not to like refill and aftermarket inks as are most modern inkjets.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you are using real ink and have tried the firmware fix and still are having issues, but all i probally end up telling you is buy another and welcome to our disposable way of life;)

Steve

Just tried installing a new photo31 ink cartridge and I am getting right cartridge incorrect message.

If you are using a photo cartridge, in your case the #31 cartridge, insert that in the left carrier where the black cartridge is. Make sure your color cartridge is inserted in the right carrier to continue printing.

Changing ink cartridge

  • Here is an instruction set I found at http://www.ehow.com/how_4488808_replace-ink-cartridges-lexmark-x2500.html
  • Step 1 Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
  • Step 2 Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
  • Step 3 Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.
  • Step 4 Remove the new black #28 ink refill cartridge from its packaging. Tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor. Now, remove the new color #29 ink refill cartridge from its packaging and tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor.
  • Step 5 Turn the cartridges so that you can read the label. This is the way the cartridges should face when being put into the printer.
  • Step 6 Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
  • Step 7 Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
  • Step 8 Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.

Error Code 1102 on Lexmark P6350 Printer

Hi, it seems that it's a cartridge problem. That's the most probable reason why you're getting that error code. Try this out.
    1. Remove cartridges.
    2. Unplug printer from power outlet.
    3. Then, plug printer back in power outlet after 10-15 seconds.
    4. Reinsert cartridges.
If error still appears, redo steps 1, 2 and 3. Then, insert black cartridge first. If error appears, replace black cartridge. If not, insert color cartridge, if error appears, replace color cartridge. Hope this helps.

I keep getting a message saying Install a color print cartridge on right side. There is one installed and I have tried changing it but it still won't recognise that one is there.

When the print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer cannot detect/communicate with print cartridge.

Clean the contact points on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth.

    1. Open the top cover of the printer.

    2. Remove the print cartridges.

    3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.

    5. Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

    6. Close the top cover.

    7. Try printing again.

If you still cant communicate try with new cartridge .

Lexmark x4550 install new cartridge but printer read incorrect

Are you using a Lexmark factory new cartridge or a re-filled / third party cartridge. If the answer is that you are using re-filled or a third party cartridge that is your failure. Lexmark does not support the use of these products in there products. In fact, use of these type of products is considered to be -product tampering and will cause Lexmark to void the printer's warranty. Please do not shoot the messenger for the contents of the message. Truth is Truth!
