My Neptune Tl FAV6800AWW will not go from rinse to spin

My Neptune Tl FAV6800AWW will not go from rinse to spin. It gets stuck at 11 minutes and tries to drain, after about 5 minutes it stops competely, still at 11 minutes and displays dC. I open the lid push all the clothes to the center, hit start, the load finishes.
This does not happen on an empty load or a load with one item.

The cluth is two months old.

Failing at the 11 minute mark is the start of Spin Cycle and is key for clutch malfunction diagnosis see this post for a technicial description. The great folks at Maytag Eng. even hang out there dirty laundry in the Service Manual for the issue of a poor clutch design…. No pun intended….sure :). I could be in left field with my assumptions I’ve got to get my clutch to fail again due to those nasty sticky one-way roller clutches to be 100% dead on.

I agree with the other forum member solution, I own the machine and I feel this could be a clutch issue also. Check out the Tub Displacement Sensor with this check and make sure the transitions change the display from UC (unbalance closed) normal TDS position to UO to (unbalance open). Here is the test TDS Troubleshooting. You don’t need to disconnect the TDS from the Washer frame as I did just do the thru the lid check. Just make sure you pull and push down the tub as I described to make the tub excursions to test the Tub Displacement Sensor. I have not measured at CONN-P3 pin 11 to Control Board common but I believe a DVM would indicate apx +3VDC to +1.5VDC for the excursion limits to produce UC/UO to the LED display.

Here is the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

If you are a DIY’er or have someone in the family with very basic mechanical skill sets take a look at this post and see if they can follow the clutch maint/repair/replacement process and save yourself some $money$. I would do this just to inspect the roller clutches in the clutch pulley for signs of a tub seal leak (slight to heavy rust). It’s a tight work area but I have hand very solid feedback from many forum members on this board and FIXITNOW.com for this step by step process.

The repair person did nothing wrong if he did not reseat the clutch properly on installation it would have spun off. I would drop the clutch out of the machine and inspect the roller clutches in the clutch hub and if your machine has the upper one-way roller clutch ring . How long has it been since your last clutch repair? I would not spend more than $60 a clutch pulley replacement part. This clutch pulley will work for all series FAV6800AW and FAV9800AW machines. Appliancezone.com keeps changing the link but here is the p/n punch it in their search box…. 25001169 …..

A repair tech that knows what he is doing shouldn’t spend more than 30 minutes in the house to pull the front cover off the machine remove the old clutch and install the new one. Some of the charges I see folks paying for a clutch replacement are out in left field. I hope you or a family member/friend can take this on.

Post back if you have questions or need help. Good Luck Rich

- Hi milten1,

Do you know what makes the new and improved clutch pulley for the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW series machines new and improved? I have been using my $50 clutch since last February think it’s now $57.

I would like to know what Maytag did to prevent the one-way roller clutches from becoming contaminated by moisture. This may answer my quest for a solid understanding of their design change.... It’s a great mystery to me.

Do you have a link to the class action suit related to failed clutches in the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW machines? I’m an owner and I’m not aware of this suit and would like to get involved. I believe they have/had a class suit for the front loader don't remember the details

My machine is a series 16 1st two digits of s/n and was mfg in 7/05 it doesn’t use the upper ring One-Way roller clutchs/ bearing assembly, my outer tub design won’t except but other forum members have used it I just don’t recall the series.

My clutch failed in Dec 08, I re-lubed the roller clutches and reinstalled an ran for a couple of months. Then I installed the 25001169 clutch $50 at the time. The only reason I did that was to see if it would install properly and hold up and it has before I recommended it to other forum members (DIY types). I would like to know just what makes a new and improved $146 clutch vs a $57 clutch worth the additional cost?

Thank you... Rich

you have a bad clutch
i have replaced about 40 of these over the last few years and for some reason 11 minutes is the key....

i am sending you the link to show you what part you will need to replace.
it is a reletive easy repair and can be done without specialtyy tools
but if you unsure order the part and
then call for service,,,, watch there face when you pull out the clutch after they tell you they will have to order it

- im affraid it could be your clutch again especially if it was just repaired and for som e reason was not installed properly
its the 11 mins that really gives it away.
but it could be your balance switch, but in all the calls ive made on this model it has only been that on one occasion, but that unit never made it to the fianl spin
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5177841&diagram_id=1327943#d1327943

look at part 17 its the displacemt sensor
make sure your is sliding properly

but i gotta tell ya the clutch is what i would replace and ive was with maytag for a very long time

- i cannot speak for your repairman
but in my service business i have a labor warrenty for 90 days from the point of original service
any good appliance man will take the hit, if its doing exactly the same thing, and a new part is needed again
im not sure of his warrenties at all but he should be able to recognize its the same problem

- excellent i am glad to hear it

after doing a liltle research it is quite possible he got a bad clutch as the replacement part
and it just went bad again
its been a while but ask him to ensure when the new one comes in that,
i believe your actually supposed to leave a ring off of some kind....
it will be in the directions of instsall

but apparently there were a few thousand bad clutches left on warehouse shelves, as maytag never order4ed a recall thus a classaction suit....
you may want to see if your still able to join the class
