I have an HP 4550 printer, and need to know what I need to purchase, so that I can connect it to my wireless network. It only has a port for a parallel cable.

Yes it will work. I know we have had to do that at our office before. You can find usb to parallel cables online like Tigerdirect.com and some other places. You can also get an adapter as well. If you need more help let me know.

Nothing helps. Print servers are capable of connecting a multifunction printer for printing capabilities only. For scanning, you have to connect directly to the Computer or by a Multifunction printer with wireless capabilities.

You must first connect your printer to the pc using usb cable, then run installation wizard that is on the CD that came with the printer.
Wizard will guide you through the setup orcess where you will provider your routers ssid (linksys) to your printer, and your printer will use that ssid to connect to your router.
After the Wizard setup is done, it will tell you to disconnect the usb cable and only then your printer will work on wireless.
Good luck,

hi
first of all I would like to inform you that you have one of the best printers of HP
now the open port error 427 that you get is generally due to blockage in network or firewall
so we need to first check weather the printer is successfully connected to the network or not
so press setup on printer go to network and then go to print network config page it will be on view network settings
now note the ipaddress on the wireless tab of the page
open a internet explorer and then type the ip address in the address bar and hit enter
the printer page should open up if it does that means the printer is on network
now turn off nortan firewall and turn on windows firewall
now click on the add exception tab of windows firewall
it vista it will be allow a programs through windows firewall
now click on add port
and in port name type the ip address of the printer
in port number type 427 and then select udp ot tcp according to the error message you get in the installation if its udp select udp if tcp select tcp
now in windows firewall click on allow programs through firewall and then in exception tab check all the entries related to hp
apply and ok
now restart the computer
now try to install
if still you get the same error
click next if you have next highlighted and go to the next step and select the third option from the screen
that will be contiue installing the printer
complete the installation
if the next is not highlighted then add an exception in nortan as well
for guidelines
open hp.com and in the search bar type c01633677
and open the document select nortan and see the instruction to add exception
if still problem persists let us know
SOURCE: Vista will not print to HP Laserjet 5p
I purchased a Dynex USB to Parallel Converter Cable from Best Buy and tried to connect but had no success. I then sent an email to Dynex customer service and received a reply in about 24 hours. The rep provided spot on instructions which I was able to follow to a tee. My 14 year old HP Laserjet 5P is now ready to run until it blows up.
I spent hours searching web forums and only received overcomplicated replies by people who think they are techies, none of which worked. I am 63 years old and not a techie, so if I can do it, anyone can. I have saved the email and will forward this straightforward simple fix to anyone who needs it. My net cost was $36.00 for the cable.
