Re: i bought used d600 and need to format it

you can do the following.

D drive can be formatted from windows itself. open my computer. right click and click format and follow instructions.

But C cannot be formatted from windows as it contains files that would be in use.To format C insert the windows(OS) CD and restart. change boot option. this can be done by pressing F4 or F8 while the system starts. now cahnge boot device to cd. now follow the instructions to load the OS(windows) and install it in C. Select quick format or format and you are done. All previous data and the OS would be deleted and the drive would be formatted and the new OS would be installed. If You want to keep your previous files, select keep files system intact while the procedure is being run.

I cannot format my dell computer

you have to format your hard drive using a third party disc to erase everything on your hard drive
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos restart
note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system
note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:
IDE0 means Pri master
IDE1 means Pri slave
IDE2 means Sec master
IDE3 means Sec slave

or if you are using a USB
insert your usb drive
click start right click on my computer select open you should see your USB drive
right click then select format
another way is to control panel administrive tools, computer management disk management right click on your drive select format
hope this helps

I bought a 16gb kingston usb flash drive, after formatting it, it turned 2 a 1gb and is write protected. i can't save or erase a file. how can i format a write protected usb? pls helpme, tnx

I might ask you first? is that flash drive brought at the license seller or distributor?if so you can claim your warranty because its a factory defect.and that case is so rare maybe 1 only out of 100.But if you bought it in somewhere else, then you must have to expect that. .

We bought a used refurbished Dell Latitude D620 with wIndows 7 and 4GB of ram, When it is up and running and needs to be charged, once you plug it in it shuts down. Do you know why?

try plugging in laptop without battery see if works ok,if it does a/c circuit good,if not battery might be defective hanging up sys.good luck!

Does not boot from SATA drive.

Hi Grumpy
It sounds like your mainboard is not set up to allow for a SATA boot drive.
Have a look in your bios and ensure the boot order is set to the SATA drive first
Then, make sure the SATA drive is formatted and has an operating system installed.
Alternatively, boot the system from a boot disk ( your XP or Vista disk will allow this) and check to see if the board can see the drive and can read the drive if it is already formatted.
If not, format it and install the O/S onto it and make sure you answer YES to the question " do you wish to boot from this drive?"
Both my systems use SATA drives and I only had a boot fault because the "pre-formatted drive" I bought was not formatted and formatting under windows during O/S installation solved this issue..

Hi you will need to contact the manufacturer of the computer,
Dell, Acer, HP etc [ not the motherboard manufacturer] and select their support option. Some manufacturers have a lock code on the hard drive and if you can get the unlock key then you will be ok. The only other option is to replace the hard drive.
