Re: i bought used d600 and need to format it
Hi, you can do the following.
D drive can be formatted from windows itself. open my computer. right click and click format and follow instructions.
But C cannot be formatted from windows as it contains files that would be in use.To format C insert the windows(OS) CD and restart. change boot option. this can be done by pressing F4 or F8 while the system starts. now cahnge boot device to cd. now follow the instructions to load the OS(windows) and install it in C. Select quick format or format and you are done. All previous data and the OS would be deleted and the drive would be formatted and the new OS would be installed. If You want to keep your previous files, select keep files system intact while the procedure is being run.

Installing Windows 98, is you need a start-up disk (floppy disk) first before you can use the Windows 98 cd. The start-up disk will perform the partitioning and formatting of the HD...doing this, you have to boot from floppy drive first---after partitioning and formatting, you have change again the boot sequence to boot from cd then you can start the installation of Windows 98.
There is actually several ways to do this. Please let me know what you are wanting to do after you format the drive.
Note if you are just reinstalling Windows the install CD can do this as part of the reinstall of Windows. In addtion if you need to reinstall Windows you may still be able to use the recover partition on the drive as well.

The ActivCard is a security ket that looks like a simple flash drive, and allows only the person who has it to use the computer. Either contact the person who you got the computer from, and ask them if they have it, or you will need to completely erase the hard drive, and reinstall the opperating system manually.
