Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver

Turning unit on , only comes to a blank white screen

I have a tomtom one 3rd gen. everytime i turn it off and then back on all i get is a white screen, then if i reset it EVERYTIME it works fine. how to i fix this ??

    Bought two of these Version Three's over the holiday season, one for my wife and one for my dad. We performed the update from the tomtom.com website on my dad's. That's when the same blank screen problem happened to us. A reset will bring it back to life, until you turn it off and then on again. Then you're back with the blank screen.

    The One that has had no updates is working fine. Other websites are suggesting there's a problem when you do an update that adds the "camera poi", which is automatically added when you do an update. One owner reports a fix by removing the camera poi feature after a reset. The gps works fine then. Anyone confirm if that works for them or not?

    We took my dad's back to store where we purchased it.

    i also get a white screen when i boot up m tomtom one 3rd generation. when i try to update the firmware, i get an error message "error 202" PLEASE HELP. it is a gift and i cannot give it until i fix this problem.

    I have same problem with TOMTOM ONE, 3rd generation. Must press reset button EVERY time unit is restarted to get it to work.

    I bought two TomTom ONE generation 3's for Christmas presents for my son and daughter. Both produce a white screen right out of the box. EVERY TIME they have to be reset to be used. Unless you carry a paper clip with you in the car, this unit will be unusable. It sounds like this problem is unique with the particular model, but with EVERY unit! Shoulda got a Garmin (I have 3 of them and NO problems.) I have looked for the solution but have found none yet. (and I'm not the "registered" owner, so I can't log into their site to send them a message)

    I have the same problem. Just got the unit for Christmas and it doesn't work. I've not registered it yet, but I suppose I will try to work through their support to get the situation resolved. This seems like a widespread problem for TomTom and unless they handle it aggressively I suppose they can anticiapte a loss of business in the future.

    TomTom knows that this is an issue with all TomTom One 3rd Editions with a seriel number that begins with Y..46, Y..47, and Y..48. If you call 1-866-486-6866 and tell them the problem, along with your seriel number, they will send you a brand new one. They will also send a shipping label for you to send the defective one back.



    They confirmed that it is a hardware glitch and no software update will fix the problem.



    As soon as you mention the white screen at start-up, they know the problem. It was amassive shipment of defective units just before Christmas.

    Same problem here.... I'll probably try to get them to send me a new one that works before I try adding any fixes.

    I also have a tomtom one, 3rd edition. It has only a white screen when turned on. It must be reset every time in order to get it to work.

This worked, it took about 2 mins. and no more white screen.

Software problem I sure.

Everytime i stop for any length of time, and proceed w trip, i must reset my tomtom One in order for the gps to guide me. screen locks up on the last position where i stopped. tired of having to stop and use the gymclip to reset. what can i do?

I guess you have the same problem I did.... I have a TomTom One 3rd Ed., and after updating it through TomTom Home, every time I turned it on, I got a blank white screen. I would have to reset it every time before I could get it to work right. If this is the same problem...go here to download the fix.

Contact TomTom. I had the same problem. Emailed customer support and they are sending me out a new unit. Not even asking me to send my unit to them first! how often does that happen....

Is this a TomTom One 3rd Edition? If it is and if the blank screen that is coming up is completely white, a fix has been posted at http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=8578&Lid=4

Before you install the update, be sure that you have the model and problem described. I hope this helps.

I guess you have the same problem I did.... I have a TomTom One 3rd Ed., and after updating it through TomTom Home, every time I turned it on, I got a blank white screen. Got it for Xmas. Same thing blank screen. Called TomTom and they sent a Fedex return label free of charge.

Tomtom 3rd edition


I think it has to do with hooking up your unit via the usb cable to the computer. I got one from Radio Shack and it worked fine for a day, drove with it and shut it on and off a couple of times. Then I hooked it up to my emachine computer, and all I got was a white screen. Took it back got another one, drove with it, turned it on and off a couple of times, worked fine. Then I hooked it up to my computer, and again the same white screen until I reset it. I noticed all these posts are in the last few days, so I would say it is a bad batch of units. I purchased one for my wife 3 weeks ago and no such problem.
