Seeeking help with new CoolPix L10 "Lens Error"

I have a 10 day old Nikon Cool Pix L10. I've taken maybe about 100 photos with it. Suddenly now if I try to zoom tight it freezes and gives me a white screen and an message which says "Lens Error" . This happens in any mode I switch to. It can take pictures in wide just fine. The lens extends and retracts smoothly-- no problem there. It's only when I press the zoom/wide button that it freezes.

This camera's been well maintained, never dropped, kept clean etc. --again it's only 10 days old. I've tried changing the batteries, looked in the manual, no luck. All the user's guide says is "contact your retailer or Nikon rep." That would be and easy out but I'm now on vacation in Bali. :-(

I'm really disappointed, this is my first Nikon and it's crappin' the bed almost right out of the box.

Any tips, advice, or insights would be greatly appreciated --Thanks in advance ~Sean Tm.

I sorry to tell you that the user manual is correct. There would be little you could do yourself and if you would attempt any repairs, you would void your warranty.

To make the best of a bad situation, I recommend setting the camera to its highest resolution mode and taking all your picture in the wide angle mode. You can crop the larger images when you get back home and still have printable pics

Hi I have a Nikon coolpix L10. Took 2 photos, turned it off. Wont start up and red light stays on, any ideas

There is a capacitor dump that you can try.

Remove the batteries, wait 5-10 minutes.
With the batteries out, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so.
Put the batteries back in and your camera will start over (re-boot). You will know if it worked if you have to reset the date. But if that lens is really stuck you may be out of luck. The cost to repair it will exceed the cost of a new camera.

I have NIKON L10. it takes the photos but all of them are not displayed... the screen becomes black on startup... whereas my old pics are dispalyed properly... i think i have problem in my lens....

try scanning the memory card with any antivirus software......
maybe its a problem due to virus. otherwise its a problem due to aperture the aperture jams during shutter clicking.

Anything you would try to do yourself would void your warranty. I suggest taking the camera back and see if they won't give you a replacement.

Usually, zoom errors occur when the lens is extended and gets bumped or dropped. Liquid and or sand can also cause these problems

Remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, replace battery. (assuming the battery is fully charged. Check there is nothing jammed in the mech. if it still stays stuck.
