I have a 10 day old Nikon Cool Pix L10. I've taken maybe about 100
photos with it. Suddenly now if I try to zoom tight it freezes and
gives me a white screen and an message which says "Lens Error" . This
happens in any mode I switch to. It can take pictures in wide just fine. The lens extends and retracts smoothly-- no problem there. It's only when I press the zoom/wide button that it freezes.
This camera's been well maintained, never dropped, kept clean etc.
--again it's only 10 days old. I've tried changing the batteries,
looked in the manual, no luck. All the user's guide says is "contact
your retailer or Nikon rep." That would be and easy out but I'm now on
vacation in Bali. :-(
I'm really disappointed, this is my first Nikon and it's crappin' the bed almost right out of the box.
Any tips, advice, or insights would be greatly appreciated --Thanks in advance ~Sean Tm.

- Thanks for the tip. May i ask --is this something you've heard about before --did I just happen to get a "lemon"? I mean the camera is practically brand spanking new, hardly been used at all and here it is failing already... Again, this is my first Nikon purchase and I'm disapointed...
I sorry to tell you that the user manual is correct. There would be little you could do yourself and if you would attempt any repairs, you would void your warranty.
To make the best of a bad situation, I recommend setting the camera to its highest resolution mode and taking all your picture in the wide angle mode. You can crop the larger images when you get back home and still have printable pics

- No, It is not a common problem that I know of. I would say you got a bad egg is all. Get a replacement when you return home and give it another go. Meanwhile, enjoy your vacation, I'll take 80s and chance of thunderstorms over 30s and cloudy any day ;)
I have a Nikkon Coolpix L3 and my sister removed the batteries while the camera while still on, and now I have a lens error and the lens will not go back in, is there anyway tha I can fix this?
