Re: Losing picture color on TV

Screen flicker can also be a bad dynamic black unit. Do you hear a low pitch growl when it flickers?

When you put the old lamp back in did the picture look OK? If so why did you replace to begin with? Yes, there are some poorly manufactured lamps out there, where did you obtain the replacement? Was it true OEM?

After about an hour or so watching the tv the screen starts to flicker. I just changed the bulb, thats seems to have delayed the problem. Any advice?

Is there any noise associated with the times that the unit flickers? Samsungs are notorious for losing the color wheel. I have replaced many and they usually make a high pitched whining sound. It could be high enough of a frequency that you may not hear it. If the lamp is new and the old lamp did not shatter or short out before you changed it I would say that the ballast is fine and I would change the color wheel. You will have to at some point as this is the weak point with the Samsung units. I have at tip at which will walk you through the process as well as identify places to purchase the parts at the best price.

That sounds like one of 2 things:
  1. Color wheel
  2. Light engine
Color wheel because of the losing color, but the light engine because of the picture freeze. It's very difficult to judge since I can't be there to see it. I'm leaning toward the light engine though. The only fix is to replace the DMD board, or entire light engine.

I have a 1994 zenith big screen the picture is showing really dar

It could be that the picture tubes have gone down on emission, there is a prcedure that can be tried to bring up the overall brightness but it is just possible that you will loose some picture quality. If it's a 1994 projo tv i am thinking of the three crt system, a gray scale alignment would probably correct the dark condition in your picture, again depending on how far gone is the emission in your picture tubes, if your projo tv is the dlp system, the bad news is that you could be needing some light engine repair. The color adjustment is possible with the availability of a service manual or in the case of the dlp system, light engine repairs or replacement are available from some on line stores.

Your bulb is burned out. I have had the same problem. It seems this television has an overheating problem--and short bulb life. I have had our 50 Magnavox dlp for two years and just put in the second bulb before Christmas. You can buy the bulb from a dealer on ebay for $99 and install it yourself. I is not in the housing so you have to carefully take out 4 screws and replace the bulb without touching the face of the bulb. To buy the one from Magnavox with the housing is much more expensive. I think the first time my husband replaced the bulb it took about 45 minutes--this time it took about 20.

DLP TV starts to loose picture after 1 - 1/2 hours of use

This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. see which inputs have the problem to narrow it down. if only some inputs, suspect analog board. if everything flickers(all inputs and menu), suspect the dmd or engine. you can see the lamp shine out the back. if the lamp is flickering, suspect lamp or ballast.

It may need a firmware upgrade if avaiable.

Flickering and freezing of picture for a split second

The most likely problem for image problems and flickering is the lamp (23311083A). I found it at for about $180. Hope this helps.
