I have a black screen that has come up that says Windows cannot start because following file is corrupt or missing: windowssystem32configsystem
then says I can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original set up CD rom then select r at the first screen and start repair.
It won't let me do any of that.... I am not stupid but I can only follow instructions ( I'm not v computer litterate) and I don't know what else to do to cure this problem.
Pls help if you can .

- no I can't start from the Cd I'm in the Boot order screen now but I can't remove the brackets around the boot option devices therefore I cannot select one! How do I get reid of the brackets as it won't let me select the device I want to! Heeeeellllppppp!Clarification Request

Can you start from CD? If not, you will probably need to set the "Boot Order" in the BIOS. You can normally get to the BIOS by pressing either F1, F2, F8, F10 or Del (not backspace) during the initial power on.

If a Repair doesn't work, then your system is too corrupt to repair, you need to install a new copy of Windows.
You won't lose your files, but you'll have to reinstall all your old programs.
