I have DSL modem and before that I was connected through the internet by cable and it worked on my both my computers (Alienware and MAC) with the router DGL-4500. Now I changed internet providers and have a DSL modem and it is connected to my router and says I am online (display screen) but I get an error saying my ethernet cable is not connected or working. And I know it is and trippled checked it. What do I need to do to fix this?
Please use any 1 device either router or a modem. My suggestion use router only as u want to connect to both of your computers might be at the same time......with different user name.
Please don't forget to ask your new ISP provider to do the router setting.
Check the IP address of the computer. If you aer getting the Ip address on the computer then try to ping the router. You have changed the ISP. there is difference between the cable and DSL service provider. settings are different. You will need to set up the router from the start. Its blocking my laptop from my network. i need my laptop to be able to see the network now, I cant set up my slingbox otherwise. Awhile ago i set the router to be used as an access point, i believe it was on the router its self, and i cant figure out where to set it to allow me back on the network. The main computer on the network is running windows xp, and it may also be a setting there.
