Question about Televison & Video
I have a large Samsung rear projection TV, model No. SP42W5HFX. The problem is it rarely turns on, and when it does it lasts about half an hour and then turns off, (goes black). When it is on it works perfectly, so its not a bulb or anything, I'm thinking it might be a loose connection, but I've taken the back panel off and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of components.
At the moment it won't turn on at all, but I do get a red light (standby/power light), then it goes out, then flashes 7 times, then goes out again. This appears to be a code that helps identify the problem but I don't have the manual or anything as I bought it from a friend.
Thanks for your time and look forward to solving this!
Can anyone tell me if its possible 2 fix an intermittent control board fault in a samsung rear projection myself and if it is do you know how to? thanks..cheryl

Im certain I can help you there are basically 2 fixes that spring to mind for this fault.
First fix : RESOLDER IC801S ON POWER PCB.
SEVERAL PINS ARE DRY JOINT NORMALLY.
Try the first fix before attempting the more difficult second fix.
You will need soldering iron with a tip of approx 1.6mm & 0.7mm fluxed solder.
Take notes & pictures of pcb layout plugs & sockets before unpluging anything in side the tv set.
The first fix is easy you just need to find IC801S & resolder all it legs (pins) to the pcb. To find the IC follow the mains input from the switch to the PSU board The IC will be very close.
********** IMPORTANT ENSURE TV IS UNPLUGGED FROM MAINS POWER ********
TV SETS STILL HOLD ELECTRICAL CHARGES EVEN WHEN SWITCHED OFF.
IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT TO UNDERTAKE A REPAIR ON YOUR TV PLEASE GET A QUALIFIED TV TECHICIAN TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU.
Second fix : CHECK R437(1.8 OHM) RESISTOR ON DEFLECTION PCB,
IF O/C CHECK IC501, IC531, IC561 ON CRT BASES FOR SHORT CIRCUIT.
