System error for coolpix 885

-   I was taking pics of my art work, using the magnifier lens, when it got stuck and system error came up.  I turned dials and a couple of times the egg timer came up but the camera won't turn off and the lens won't return to the camera. I took the battery out, the image file out, put them back in, turned it off and on.   I guess I've had it for a number of years and got my money's worth.  Does this mean it's caput?  I sure loved this camera.  It was my favorite of all I have.  I u se it almost on a daily basis.  Terrific for downloading my paintings and sculpture onto my computer.  HELP ME!!!! I want my old camera back. Wendy-   deBarneval
