Radio has 10 watts on side band

Hi, My Galaxy 88 HL - I thought it was supposed to dead key 25 watts on side band? I can not get more than 10 out of it. What did I touch inside??? I don\'t have a problem adjusting the AM. I have it set for 3 on low and 10 on high. I did touch a few things that I wasn\'t supposed to. Can anyone of you electronically inclined gentlemen help me out?? I would really appreciate a LOT!!!!!!!

71 Nova, It sounds to me like you've had your golden screwdriver in too many places, without the proper knowledge of what the adjustments do. The first thing is that there is no, I repeat no deadkey power on SSB. You should only have peak power when the radio is modulated.
* Take the radio to a qualified radio tech and have him do an alignment on the radio. That will put everything back to it's proper adjustment (dead on the money) with the use of a scope and analyzer. That will make the radio work well, you will get compliments and the world will look brighter,,
** Note** It's not all about the highest wattage, it's about everything working well together. Hope this helps you out and have a good day,, Mechanic

According to info Ive read on this radio its not supposed to dead key at 25 watts on side band .Its 25 watts PEP which in laymans terms means( peak envelope power) if your only getting 10 wats dead key and you set it according to specs the 25 watts is what youll get when you talk into the mic . It will swing to 25 watts when you talk. If your meter doesnt show this its probably reading RMS power dont trust the radios meter there not very accurate.

Readjust your load coil. You should never attempt this without a load and a watt meter.

Thats the final tunable coil before the output. I cannot tell you where it is without looking at a schematic.

Is it possible to convert the cobra 29 wx nw st sound tracker cb to 10 meter amateur band?

No it cannot. If you want that buy a Ranger or a Galaxy.

The 29 can be altered to increase modulation and turned down in power to match it to amp for increased output of power.

Set to dead key a watt or so with a 100 watt amp it would dead key low and swing to 80 to 100 watts pep.(peak envelope power)

This is not a simple answer not knowing if it ever worked or not. I have a rfx75 installed on a DX 88 and it preforms flawlessly. If I were you I would find a reputable CB Shop and ask for their help.

Just want to know if i should use my ll203 amp in am or ssb mode when running with a cobra CB radio?

What radio?? Does it have single side band(SSB)? If not, then don't use SSB.

AM - amplitude modulation
SSB - single side band.

If you have SSB, there would be a switch on it to transmit in SSB. If not, it is AM only.

Second, Has this radio been worked on to be able to run on an amp? If not, you will blow the amp.

A CB radio transmits dead keys with 4 watts of power, and transmits with 4 watts of audio.

a 4 watt dead key is too much for a linear amp. You will smoke the transistors. Also, 4 watts of audio is not enough to drive it properly. You won't get full power.

The dead key needs to be around 2 to 2 -1/2 watts,or what ever makes the linear dead key half its peak wattage., and the modulation (audio) turned up all the way.

It doesn't sound like you know too much about CB radio's. Not a big deal, you can learn. For right now you may want to take it to a cb shop and tell them you want a peak and tune, and set up to run a linear.

You can find CB shops usually at truck stops. Some area's they are other places. Check the internet for local shops.
