When I try to turn it on the light comes on but it shows Lens err

I suggest for you to call Nikon.
Go to nikon.com and browse to the support section. Choose the repair area and find the toll free number for repairs.
Call and talk to the repair department, telling them what has happened.
Staples may be able to give you a receipt from their computer backups.

Remember if you had the camera exposed to any damage of any sort, you more than likely will have no warranty. Did the camera encounter any impact damage, water damage or exposure, or any other kind of damage?
