Problem for Maytag MFD2560HES Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator
Fridge and freezer at approx same temp warm.
Fridge and freezer at approx same temp warm. Bottom was cleaned as best we could was extremely dirty. What else may the problem be?

- It makes an occasional noise like the icemaker is filling or kicking out ice. Upon a check this morning the freezer is freezing again and am not sure of the exact fridge temp till I get a thermometer today. I have set both fridge and freezer at the coldest setting til I can understand what is going on.Oct 22, 2009

- I located control board and it is in perfect looking condition. The fridge/freezer started acting up the night of approx 10/20/09 the problem wasnt really discovered until 10/22/09 due to the family not being at home during meal times and oversight on my part. After the discovery the fridge was tilted back and the underneath cleaned throughly. It started working again in perfect condition. Today 11/1/09 it started acting up again luckily this time it was caught in time to remove the items from the fridge before spoilage. I have since removed everything and checked the control board and took another look under the fridge and it is still clean no new noises just not cooling. Wondering if maybe it just needs charged. Also our kitchen was probably below 60 degrees farenheit last night into this morning. So thinking maybe that also maybe the problem but dont think it is. Looing for any suggstions short of getting out the wallet for major repairs.Nov 03, 2009

- On 11/3 repairman returned and replaced the starter with a hard starter? He said it could be a sign that the compressor is going bad we have had no problems since this has happened. I keep a constant eye in the fridge temp as im worried that without warning were going to lose the fridge. He also said that the only way to find out if the compressor is under warranty is to contact Maytag since they hide the manufacture date in the serial number. I bought this unit two years ago used from a Rent 2 Own type facility so im am unsure how old the fridge is. He also stated that he rarely is ever replaces compressor is because they are so expensive and not worth it in the long run.Clarification Request

Are you hearing any strange noises? maybe a buzzing or a clicking sound? how old is the fridge?

Need to unplug and lets inspect the control board inside the fresh food compartment and behind control pane. Fact is it is part of the controls on that model. Look for heat or burn marks but still without signs the board may be not allowing defrost a fan or the compressor to run. If you see ice building on rear wall of freezer unplug and manually defrost so at least you will have colder temperatures until repaired. Part number for the board is 12868513 I will be back shortly with a photo or two, Sea Breeze

If you need to change the defrost heater it also would be a good idea to change the defrost thermostat. You can also get these from the=> Repair Clinic. - Here the board looks like. You can find the board=> Here While in the freezer area you should have a look at the defrost heater => 67002493 or 1007175 Defrost HeaterHere is also a photo of the defrost thermostat part Number=> 67003426 or 1033990 Defrost Thermostat

- Thank you for the great vote! I did some checking and your compressor needs a run capacitor. But maybe not. I dont't mean to confuse your. The service manual says run while the parts say start.If he put a hard start capacitor on your compressor and it calls for a run capacitor it will burn it out quickly. I sure hope my findings are incorrect about the hard start and the technician is a factory authorized technician. If not the compressor will burn out soon. I only hope that the technician really knows what he is doing and your compressor has not passed the 5 year sealed system warranty. Maytag is a good company and backup their products better than any out there. I have also bought new compressors that are bad. Sometimes we all have those days of bad luck. But just remember the good luck and it seems to make us all feel better. They are an honorable and respectable company and will put a new compressor on the refrigerator and then that will make things much better.
