PDV-808 Disc Not Spinning

The unit is new. I set it up and removed the sticky tape from under the laser reader, as directed in the instructions. When I put a disk in, it makes noise, but the disc doesn't start spinning. Eventually, I get the "no disc" error message. Any ideas? Thanks!

DVD player loads then stops and says no disc, havent used it in about 4 years ,how do i get it to play dvd, tried to set up like it says but must be doing something wrong

Tries to play more than one DVD disc.Tries to play many DVD disc should be original DVD disc ok no DVD+R copying disc ok.If ur are still getting signal just saying loading signal awhile than say no disc show up, and u did playing it with many dvd original disc.Than the DVD player laser eye reader could be ditry.Tries websites like, to buy a DVD disc set that said like DVD players lasers eyes cleaners.Used it as directions said,if u still getting the same result mean ur DVD player laser eye reader it is dead, not worth repairing the DVD player if the DVD player laser eye reader it it dead, because the laser eye reader it is 90% important to the DVD player unit and the cost of it by replacing it will cost the same as a new DVD player unit.

Even after cleaning the unit - it still states that there is no disc in the unit. What can i do?

If you see the disc spinning, but it is taking far too long for the drive to read it, it means the laser assembly has either failed or is failing. If you do not see the disc spinning, then the spindle motor is shot. You can observe the behaviour of the player with the top cover removed; but DO NOT look directly at the laser while doing so; even if it is faulty - it can still emit a radiation beam.

I don't think this would be an economical repair; it could cost more than it's worth for a workshop to replace the faulty parts and align them, plus they might need to upgrade the firmware. It would be cheaper to replace the whole player with a new one.

As products become cheaper to buy new, older models are becoming increasingly expensive to repair.

When playing a dvd, it loads then says no disk. This just started yesterday & does it with all dvds.

Either the laser has suddenly burned out without warning, or there's something on the lens.
My first guess is something on the lens
Don't open the unit if it's under warranty...return it.
If you want to do it yourself, remove the cover so you can get at the lens.
With a q-tip and isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, VERY GENTLY wipe the lens clean.
Put in a DVD while the unit is open.
Everyone says the laser is outside the human visual spectrum but that's hogwash...when the disc is in, you should be able to see the laser right through the disc.
If you can't and it's still saying no disc, the laser is likely burned out.
The other possibility is that the unit isn't spinning the disc.
In either case, it needs to be serviced by an expert or replaced.

I have a Durabrand dual screen 7" portable dvd player Model PDV-722. Has worked fine for over a year. Now it just spins and says loading. Then it will say disc error. I have tried several discs and have...

Looks like your optical sensor is gone. And considering the price of the PDV-722 replacing the optical unit is not an option. By the other hand I have a burned slave monitor and I would be happy to buy yours to complete my set, which is reading DVD's very well.

It says no disk.. and disk is not spinng..

If the disc is not spinning when you insert it in the player, then the problem is that the spindle motor has malfunctioned. The spindle motor is the device that spins your disc so the player can read the disc.

In the picture above you can see the optical reader lens (small glass bubble looking component) and the top of the spindle which the disc sits on (large circular component) and the motor is located directly below that.

The good news is that the spindle motor's average cost is between $25-40 dollars. The bad news is that if you can fix the problem yourself, you will need to remove the entire optical laser assembly in order to replace the motor its self and is a pain. You can have a service technician fix it for you, but the cost will now average you $80-100 dollars depending on what service charges are in the area you live.

I would suggest that you remove the cover and visually confirm that the disc is not spinning, just to make sure. You can try buying a can of compressed air and cleaning the inside out really well first because there could be dust build up which could prevent the spindle from spinning properly.

If you see that it is spinning up, then you may just need to clean the discs or the optical lens. You can take a look at my tips and tricks in my profile for instructions on how to clean the optical reader lens. I wish you the best of luck in fixing the problem.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

Broken disk lid

Not sure if you can find a replacement lid but you may be able to play DVD's if you manually depress the small switch that the lid would engage if it were closed. The switch is located where the lid hinges at the right side, you should see a small rectangular hole. The switch can be depressed through that hole. Of cousre, your DVD will be spinning with no lid to protect it but just don't touch it while the disc is playing. When done playing, you can just turn the unit off or remove whatever you used to engage the small lid switch.

Dvd player, pvd-709

Hi lindy,
My kid broke the ribbon tape, so I took it apart. It is easy to fix all you have to do is plug it back in if the connectors are in tact. 1 goes to the reader and the other plugs into the circuit board. My problem is that I cant find a new flat ribbon cable/wire anywhere.

Coby TF-DVD7100 7" portable flat screen...keep getting "Wrong Disc" Error

I have seen this problem on several Yamada & Xoro brand DVD players. If you remove the lid after powering down with the disc tray closed and a disc in it you may well find the ribbon cable to the read head is rubbing on the disc. The ribbon cable is held to the base of the box by a sticky pad under a 45 degree bend in it and a piece of sticky tape !!!. Power up unit, open disk tray, power it down, retape cable to base securely with small strips of duct or gaffer tape (using tweezers helps) and hey presto it will work again. The cable rubbing slows the disk spin speed hence "data read error" unit assumes "bad/faulty/wrong type of disk". All that technology screwed up by using a cheap bit of tape in the factory assembly, amazing eh !.

Bad Disc

First determine where the problem lies. This can be done by analyzing what is happening. Is the disc spinning. Is it spinning erratically? If the disc is not spinning, the spin motor is probably defective. But sometimes you can be fooled, if the laser does not detect information of the disc, it will not issue a start spin motor command. If you can get the unit to work with the door open by defeating the switches,(Do not under any circumstances look directly into the laser)If you see the laser then the spin motor is bad, In either case the unit is is probably cheaper to replace than to repair.
