You have major problems. You should take it to a repair shop as it sounds like your motherboard is fried.

My HP Pavilion Dv 5000 notebook stop working: no power and the power Led is off. I opened it and tested the power cable which is OK; I checked all over the motherboard looking for some damaged or burnt...

Of the two LEDs at the left front of the notebook, if the left-most one is blinking, then the notebook is in standby. If the left-most one is off and the one to the right of it is blinking, then the notebook is in a low battery condition and quite likely the notebook had initiated hibernation. If you had the AC adapter plugged-in for some time and the low-battery condition persists, then likely the adapter has failed. Normally you would just press the power button to restore from hibernation but if the system had initiated hibernation due to a critical low-battery condition, the system may not respond unless you have inserted a fully-charged battery pack. Here is an excerpt from page 38 (Chapter 3 Power) of the HP Pavilion DV5000 User Manual....

*If the system initiated hibernation because of a critical low-battery condition, connect external power or insert a

charged battery pack before you press the power button. (The system may not respond if the discharged battery pack
is the only power source.)

Can HP dv2715nr hibernate instead of being put on sleep mode?

  • Hi. "Yes," but putting the computer in the Hibernation State, can use up to 400MB of memory, and can be very "unstable to the system." You Can change the "Sleep, Hibernation, Wake-up...from the Start search window, Type Power, to open the Power Options. "If the solution helped, "Rating it is appreciated, thanks."

Cannot wake up computer after putting it to sleep -- HP Pavilion -- I have pressed every concievable key combination ? Computer may be waking, but monitor is blank.

I rebuild these systems all the time and I have to tell you I just shut off the hibernation which is what the problem is. Go to power options in the control panel and click the hibernation tab and uncheck the box. That way you save the disk space and the aggravation of trying to wake up the system. Let the computer go into standby if you want but you really need to turn off the hibernation...

Can't get out of hibernation

I recommend you to do it the nasty way, unplug the power cord, and detach the battery.
Also, you may need to update windows, because this will happen again and again, there is something wrong in your windows and I can not say what it is with out working on the computer.

Desk top won't display-hibernation mode

Hi,

Based on your post of failure to boot due to hibernation, you can try removing the battery and AC adapter connection for an hour or so. Thereafter, insert battery back and charge but don't power up. Allow the laptop to charge for a couple of hours. Try powering up/booting. Press F8 to start in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode disable Hibernation.

If the laptop still fails to power up, then it may be entirely another problem.

Post back results. Good luck and kind regards.
