Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera
When I try to take a photograph that requires flash, the pop-up flash does not come up. There are three distinct sounds similar to an auto wind motor. My display pop-up says , "Error: Err05 The built-in flash's auto pop-up was obstructed. Turn power switch
There is nothing obstructing the pop-up, externally visible to me. Turning the power off and on again does not "correct" the problem. The camera simply resets and continues to operate in this manner for all exposures except for the no-flash mode.
You will need to send the camera for servicing. There's a lever mechanism inside the flash unit which is responsible for popping up the flash. Since it is a mechanical device, it is sometimes prone to failure. I suggest not to put manual pressure to force the flash to come out, as it may cause permanent damage. Instead, send the camera for service.

I just discovered solution!!! I was having the same problem with the flash pop-up button not working while in "auto" mode, then discovered that the camera (is supposed to and does) control the flash in (green box) auto mode while in "P" (Program) mode, you control the flash, if you press the flash button, it should pop-up. P mode is not so different from Auto mode - it only allows you a bit more control.
