Question about Microsoft Xbox Console

1 Answer

Xbox problem Sometimes, not always tho' , original X-Box will not load a game. Cleaning lens does not help; games are immaculate (no kids in house at all); Shows "x box does not recognise .....etc" usually at beginning but sometimes in middle of a game. Then next day, say, no problem at all! Have had it for approx 4-5 years and only play some weekends. Could it be we need another laser? Do they wear out? P.S. We are the older end of the market so no high 'tech' please. Peter Smith

I think my lens is weak, the cd has to be ejected and inserted a couple of times before it works

Like any system, Xbox consoles require occasional cleaning to remain in peak condition. If you're experiencing skipping, poor sound quality, increased loading time, or any number of technical annoyances, simply cleaning your Xbox lens may correct the problem. The lens is responsible for reading all the data on your Xbox game discs; it is the most important part of the entire system. Cleaning the lens takes only a few minutes with the right cleaning product and know-how.
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need:

* CD lens cleaning disc

1.Purchase a CD lens cleaning disc. It is important that you buy a lens cleaner for a CD player, not a DVD player. Classic Xbox consoles are not DVD compatible, but they can play CDs. Some lens cleaning discs are marketed specifically as Xbox 360 cleaners, but these may not work in an original Xbox if the disc is DVD-formatted.

2.Turn on your television and Xbox just like you normally would to play a video game.

3.Open your Xbox's disc drive, placing the lens cleaning disc in the drive face-up. A lens cleaning disc works by sweeping small brushes over the laser lens surface. These brushes are located on the bottom of the disc; be careful not to touch the brushes---the microfiber brushes are delicate and can become damaged easily.

4.Close the Xbox and let the machine power up; make sure your television's volume is turned on. Your Xbox should automatically take you to the system's standard CD player menu. If this does not happen, select the menu manually using your Xbox controller.

5.Begin playing the first track of the cleaning disc. Listen carefully, because audio directions will play indicating the steps necessary for properly using your cleaning disc. Each brand of lens cleaning disc will have different steps, but they are typically very simple, involving tasks like skipping ahead to different tracks or briefly putting the CD in fast forward mode. If you cannot hear the audio directions, consult the written instructions packaged with the disc.

6.Remove the cleaning CD after you've followed the audio directions---a typical cleaning cycle only takes a few minutes, and the audio directions will tell you when cleaning is complete.

7.Carefully place the lens cleaning disc back in its case, avoiding damaging the brushes on the bottom. Lens cleaners can be used multiple times, so plan on using the cleaning disc regularly to help avoid future problems with your Xbox console

How do i clean xbox 360 len?, xbox keeps saying my disk needs cleaning, the disk is spot-less, after 3/4 of an hour (appox), it loads the game. Thanks.

If your Xbox 360 will not play your games this is because of the sensors on the back of the drive overheating it is not normally the laser.

Luckily you can fix this yourself and get back to your games and to do this you need the proven Xbox 360 Repair guide.

Or you can send it in and they will fix it for you the repair will take about 4 weeks.

You can use the recommended guide to fix this and get back to gaming.

It always says it's dirty or damaged

Is the disc dirty or damaged? Is it just this game or all games? If all games then there is more than likely a fault with the drive or the lens needs cleaning.

Halo 3 maps messed up

This is often caused by a damaged/dirty disk or corrupted downloaded maps.

First, clean your game disk. Then I would suggest cleaning your consoles lens with a cd cleaner or can of compressed air.

Next I would copy your game directly to your consoles hard drive. Go into your game library and you will see the option when you navigate to halo3.

If it is a downloaded map that will not load:
Delete the map from your hard drive and redownload it from marketplace. If you are using the same gamertag that you originally downloaded the map with, then this should be a free download.

You can also clear your 360's cache. Instructions for this process are below. After clearing cache, you will have to download updates for any game before playing.

My xbox 360 wont play discs - keeps repeating open tray, I can play demos and xbox live but not discs or movies, any tips?? Thanks!

I just found a post on this and it worked for me. My warranty is past. So I took matters in my own hands. I took it apart which was fairly simple cleaned the lens and surrounding areas but it didn't work. But this is what I found out its not reading the disk because the disk isn't spinning. With the box apart and drive open I put it back in the system and turned on the power I noticed the drive would spin slowly I then while the disk was trying to load I spun the disk by hand to help it along and wala it started spinning I powered down put it back together and as of 10:45 2night my gaming nightmare is over. I hope this was helpful. Good luck all!!

My xbox doesn't always read games and movies and is getting very frustrating please help

Well if the discs have either no scratches or light scratches I would guess you need to run a laser lens cleaning disc through it. I try to run one every month because it is natural for dust to gather and collect on the laser lens over time.

A can of air duster and a CD/DVD Lens cleaner will do the trick. Sometimes over the course of having a console out will allow dust to settle in on the main components of it and also on the lens there fore making it hard for the laser to read anything. Regular cleaning of about once a month will help prevent you from missing out on game time.
