Have installed 2x 1G PC2 6400 800Mhz Modules into the PC. However the machine will not boot up. If I simply replace one of the modules with one that I removed (256MB at 533MHz it will boot - and will recognise half of the new memory? I have tried all variations of the new/old memory in all of the slots - the result is the same?

What is your Motherboard type? Sometimes you might want to check that you can boot more than 2g's it is likly you can't but im sure you could, is there more than 2 slots for ram aswell? if there is try putting all 4 memory sticks in, if this further doesnt help, go to your motherboard website and get the latest drivers.

The PC displays red signal when switched on

My solution will be helpful if you know the physical location & appearance of the memory. Open the desktop cabinet, locate the memory modules, take a pencil eraser, rub the contact points on both sides of the memory modules to look brighter, install the memory modules & boot the PC. If there is problem after this, check the memory modules one by one if more than one else replace the memory modules.

After starting my computer it refreezes on the emachine loading page, when i go into safe made it does nothing when i try to restore to last known it still does nothing

Hello Tracey, your boot files are damage, either by bad system files or bad clusters on the hard drive, the best solution that I can offer are the following. The freezing is caused by either two things, bad memory module and/or a bad hard drive boot sector.
Try replacing your memory modules with new ones, to replace the modules, open your PC side panels, the memory modules are those flat sticks being held by snaps on the side, push the snaps off to release the modules. bring them to a PC shop for replacement. Replace the modules back. Get help from a friend if you do not know how.
IF the above mention does not solve the problem, then you have a bad hard drive. You need the CD installer of Windows, and a high capacity flash drive for backup. So open your PC side panels. (ask a friend if you do not know how.)
  1. Manually remove the hard drive on your PC, and install it on a good known PC, if you are using Windows, then the good known PC should be the same version of Windows, and as the good PC boots up, it detects the bad hard drive and fixes it automatically, run scan disk to be sure, and after the fixes made then back up your important documents, return your hard drive to the original PC. Then back up your files.
  2. IF you have unimportant documents on your fallen hard drive, simply reformat and install a fresh copy of Windows. If you are a VISTA fan, the files are automatically backup on Windows.old folder.
Thats it keep me posted

According to manual my PC wont boot now due to DRAM not detected

First I would carfully clean both the memory sockets and memory module contacts. Then inspect both the memory socket and module contacts for signes of corrosion.

If all is good try one module at a time in each socket. One is sure to work, even both, but not to gether. Ageing can cause the modules to run at slightly different speeds and cause such problems.

You can always test your memory modules in a friends computer?

Have 512MB RAM. Was told to max it out because the machine is extremely slow. Has two slots with 256MB. Can I put two 512MB memory modules in those slot to increase 1G or RAM?

yes, after looking up your laptop on hp's website, I have determined the kind of memory you need; (assuming your computer is the one you put in the question, HP Pavilion ze4805us Notebook PC)

you need 2x 512 mb, 200-pin, DDR 266 memory

I looked and found some Corsair (highly respected company in computer memory) memory, for 22.99 for each DIMM (you'll need to buy 2); see link below.

Hi! How can I increase the RAM on my Aspire T310? Can I do it myself? Thanks.

Yes, you can definitely do this yourself. Upgrading RAM is one thing that repair places make much money; however, it takes a matter of seconds to complete.

Your Acer Aspire T310 has two memory slots on the motherboard. Each slot can hold a maximum of 1GB each for a total of 2GB RAM. You should see a great improvement in performance.

To save on a long tutorial, I have included a video link. The type of RAM you need can be found at the following link. Kingston is another manufacturer you could check into also.

Please remember to unplug all cords from your computer and be in a static free environment before upgrading your memory. Good Luck!

System failed to boot when installing additional 2X 1GB RAMs.

you need to place them on your motherboard where the memory is installed. Place in the order of one new, one old, one new, one old stick. that way they run in dual channel.

Memory upgrade

It looks like the A25 will only hold 1g of PC2100, which is really plenty, unless you're a serious gamer or into graphic arts and need an extreme high definition video. Here's a link to the memory configurator that I use in order to find the proper memory, max held, and the chipset. You might double check to be sure I looked up the right machine. If it is the right machine, I suggest two 512mb chips. Sometimes you can't run one 1g chip because the slots are designed to only hold a certain amount, and if they will hold the 1g chip, sometime the machine doesn't run properly. It wants to use both slots accordingly, running only one creates conflicts. This should help in boosting your RAM.
