Getting Not Responding

Get a reputable Computer technician to do a wipe and reload for you. Usually when a computer is slow or programs just hang, it will be very hard for end users to figure out the bottle neck, or anything that is causing that, and you will end up spending a lot of money trying to find the bottle neck. But before you find the computer tech, Try this method,,,,
Go to control panel and on the search column just type SYSTEM RESTORE and the select the Restore system files and settings from a restore point. While you are doing this make sure that your computer is connected to the charger. In the system restore, select a restore point that is earlier than when the problem started. This will take a few minutes depending on the machine, then all will be well. If the problem continues, then you should just find a Windows 7 Home Premium installation disc and repair your computer

Brother MFC-6800 scanner isn't recognized in XP

I think that's a defective scanner. Common issue, everything works but scanner not even detected as a device in xp. But printer detects fine. If you don't see any ghost or uninstalled drivers for the scanner i suspect hard ware failure. Probably some internal cabling or connection within the scanner itself.

System Recovery Problem

Phillynoy was right on! I have been fighting with the recovery and restoration hanging. When I read Phillynoy's comment about the optimal speed setting, I called Gateway. The tech said she would be glad to tell me how to change those settings for $59 tech fee (first 30 minutes). So I decided to look in the bios and there it was under Advanced. Change to disable the optimal speed and the computer has finally completed the installation! Praise God!

Windows Vista hangs while browsing

An operating system hanging indicates that either the program you are using, or the operating system itself, has crashed. The easiest way to eliminate hangs is to start up the computer from your Windows installation disc, and then either choose to Repair your installation, Restore the installation or install a new Windows OS.
Your computer came with a recovery option that lets you "reset" or recover to a known "good point". Hold down the "Alt" key and then hit the "F10" key (both at once) to activate the feature, and then follow the on-screen directions.
