Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Xbox360 just bought refurbished with 30 day warranty. Everything works fine but when I try to play a game it tells me an xbox hard drive must be attatched to play original xbox games. Did they forget to give me a hard drive? I thought that was the system itself? Or did I hook something up wrong??? I don't know..all I know is I paid alot for this thing and I hope I can get it to work soon. Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: xbox360

I suspect you bought the xbox 360 core version. this does not come with a hard drive and therefore you cannot play original games. since you have the 30 day warranty i'd recommend you buy either the premium (comes with 20 gb hard drive) or the elite (120 gb hard drive). or you can buy a hard drive seperately and install it, however it's very overpriced like all 360 accessories

hopefully that helps

Xbox will play dvds and cds but not games it tells me to play this game put in an xbox 360 console. please help!!

This may be caused by a dirty laser in the unit. Try cleaning the laser with a cue tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the drive. Check with microsoft to see if the unit is still under warranty with this site:

If your unit is not under warranty go to We are a console repair company based in Texas, and we can clean/replaced the laser for you. We give a free diagnosis of what is wrong with the unit(Besides shipping), and will call with an estimate of repairs before any work is done to your unit. All our work comes with a 90 day warranty, and you can buy up to 4 years worth of warranty.

My xbox 360 won't read any games. my games are all new(no damage) and my xbox360(purchased in Feb. '09) has never been damaged. Other than the fact that I can't play anything in the drive tray, the rest of...

Well if you bought it in Feb. of this year I would just send it into M$. If the problem you are having is that it says "Open Tray" after putting a game in, means the calibration on the drive isn't strong enough to read the games and needs tweaked. M$ will fix it for free if the system is still under the 1 year warranty.

Xbox will not read any game or dvd

It sounds like your DVD drive has failed, this is fairly common. There is a good chance it is still under warranty from microsoft. Give them a call at:

If it is not under warranty you can replace the dvd drive itself, google xbox 360 replacement parts. It's not too difficult if you are technically inclined.

Cannot open file default exe for xbox360

i know how to fix # 68 error code!
i watched a video on youtube and it worked for me, i know this sounds crazy but, it may have something to do with your hard drive -if you have one-
believe me or not, btw this worked for me, if you unplug everything and take out the hard drive and tap or hit -a light hit- on a table or wall, plug everything back in -including the hard drive- and tada! there you go!

Xbox 360 won't play old xbox games?

If your console is hooked up to Xboxlive and has a Hard Drive connected to it you will automatically be prompted to update upon insertion of the original Xbox title. Your console will restart when it's ready and you should be able to play.

*If you do not have a Hard drive you cannot play original Xbox titles.* The original Xbox Memory unit will not work in Xbox360 and the original Xbox games have no access to the Xbox360 memory units.

If you have a Hard Drive but your Xbox360 is not hooked up to the internet you can either order a disc for free from Microsoft by going Here

or burn the needed information onto a disc by going Here
